[Goji Decoction]
It brightens the eyes, preserves youthfulness, promotes steady and healthy gait, strengthens Yuan Qi (Original Qi), and moistens and beautifies the skin.
Harvest Goji berries in any quantity. First remove the stems, then wash them thoroughly with clear water, rinse, and drain. Place the berries into a cloth bag. On a clean chopping block, extract the natural juice. Let it settle overnight, discard the clear water on top, and put the remaining liquid into a stone vessel. Simmer over low heat until it becomes a paste. Take it out and store it in a porcelain container. Each time, take half a spoonful, mix with warm wine, and ingest. Long-term consumption yields miraculous benefits and is highly advantageous. If the weather is slightly warm during preparation, the settled juice does not need to sit overnight; it can be simmered into a paste directly. It will not spoil even after two or three years of storage. If consumed long-term, preparing extra batches is also acceptable.
[Method for Consuming Nine-Joint Acorus]
It preserves youthfulness, extends longevity, brightens the eyes and ears, dispels Wind-pathogens, opens orifices, calms the Spirit, and enhances intelligence.
Select Nine-Joint Acorus (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) in any quantity. The best source is that growing in mountain streams on rocks in flowing eastward water. If difficult to obtain, that growing in rock crevices in water is also acceptable; do not use that from ponds or marshes. Harvest in August, remove roots and fibrous roots, and clean carefully. Soak in rice-washing water for three days and nights, changing the water daily. Remove, drain, and slice thinly with hard bamboo into pieces as thick as copper coins. Place in a cloth bag and store in running water, soaking through the Three Fu periods (the hottest days of summer). Wash thoroughly with well water (Jinghua Shui) and select. Steam nine times like steaming rice; after each steaming, sun-dry for one day until the count is complete. Do not let it touch iron vessels. Pound finely in a wooden or stone mortar, sift into powder. Mix with refined honey to make pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Start with 20 pills, gradually increasing to 30, 40, or 50 pills. Ingest with salted water; tea or wine is also acceptable. Avoid sheep blood. Store surplus pills in a paper bag, hanging in a ventilated place. If powder runs out, re-grind or prepare new pills using wine-boiling or paste-binding methods.
[Secret Formula for Jin Ye Dan / Golden Liquid Pill]
Sulfur (also known as Shi Ting Zhi or Jin Ye), take 3–5 taels up to 10 taels. Imported Sulfur (Bo Shang Liu Huang) is superior; other sources are acceptable if free of impurities. Grind the sulfur into powder and fill an earthenware jar to 80–90% capacity.
Prepare one medicinal jar containing the drug and cover it. Gather a large handful of Gouti Cao (Wu Long Rui, *Pteris multifida*) and a large handful of Da Jian Cao (Shui Tian Cao, *Marsilea quadrifolia*, growing in rice fields, with four flowers per stem resembling the character 'field', single stem). Pound these two herbs in an iron mortar until mushy, add a handful of yellow earth, and pound together until uniform like mud. (If these two herbs are unavailable, substitute with Yi Mu Cao (*Leonuri Herba*).) Wrap the bottom and sides of the drug jar with mud about 5–6 fen thick, leaving only the mouth unsealed. Place the jar on level ground. Surround it with 5–6 jin of charcoal, and place over 1 jin of hot coals on top. Burn until the jar glows red at 90%. Observe the mouth: when green flames appear, quickly remove the charcoal and cover entirely with 3 dou of wood ash to prevent gas escape. Wait until cool, remove ash, and scrape off the mud. (This constitutes one cycle of refinement; repeat this process for each cycle.)
For the second cycle, follow the previous method, wrapping the drug with herbs, repeating the process five times. If the fire control is appropriate, the extracted substance will have the aroma of a boiled egg, indicating the correct timing. For urgent use, two cycles are sufficient (though more cycles are better).
After sufficient refining, bury the furnace in the ground overnight to eliminate "fire toxicity." After each cycle, scrape off sand and stones from the bottom. Retrieve the furnace, place it in a yinzi (small pot) with water, boil for 10–20 times, then break the furnace to retrieve the drug. Pound it, then grind in a ceramic mortar with decoction water until smooth and mud-like, without coarse particles. Dry it. For every 2 qian of drug powder, use 1 liang or more of steamed dough. Soak the dough in water, squeeze out excess water, mix with the drug, pound in a tea mortar until uniform like flour, and form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Sun-dry and store. Administration methods are as follows:
1. When a patient experiences slight constipation, reduced appetite, or symptoms resembling chills and fever, administer this medicine immediately for effective results. Once recovered, take once daily.
2. In the absence of disease, take 20–30 pills every morning to prevent all illnesses.
3. Whenever illness occurs, regardless of cold or heat nature, take the medicine until efficacy is achieved. It naturally demonstrates miraculous power. Do not mix with other medicines, nor take other medicines that cause vomiting or diarrhea. This medicine naturally possesses both tonifying and purging properties, differing from ordinary drugs. It can be taken by men, women, old, and young without禁忌 (contraindications).
4. For children, retain fine powder, mix with rice drink, and administer via bowl. For night crying, fright, milk injury, or phlegm-fluid retention, rapidly grind at least 1 fen of powder for administration, twice daily. It will naturally be effective, expelling accumulated matter. Administer generously without禁忌. Safe for children aged 3–5 with illness.
5. For persistent diarrhea or dysentery, decoct Huang Lian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*) and Bei Mu (*Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus*), and use the decoction to swallow the pills. To avoid bitterness, sift the pill powder, mix in equal parts with steamed dough, form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds, and swallow with rice drink.
6. For intestinal wind and hemorrhoids, add Bai Qian (*Cynanchi Stauntonii Radix et Rhizoma*) powder in equal parts, form pills as before, and swallow with rice drink. For all sores and stubborn ulcers, apply powder externally. For chronic Wind-diseases, lung diseases, cold accumulation, sudden Shang Han (Cold Damage) or malaria, chest/epigastric discomfort, headache, or abdominal heat, follow the previous method and take in larger doses.
7. Regarding Shang Han (Cold Damage), physicians often mistakenly use purgatives, causing transformation of disease, or induce sweating improperly, disrupting Yin and Yang, making recovery difficult. Henceforth, if one feels early signs of Shang Han, take large amounts of this medicine, consuming 100–200 pills daily to induce gradual excretion. Do not be alarmed by diarrhea; continue until fully expelled, and the illness will naturally subside. This method has been verified countless times.
8. This medicine treats various diseases; adjust dosage based on disease depth. For superficial skin diseases, acupuncture or topical application may be needed as internal medicine might not reach deeply. This medicine is extremely potent, but people often falsely believe it is toxic and refuse it, suffering unnecessarily when ill. I personally transmit this method, which has reliable efficacy. If cured, no need to consume excessively.
