First, starting from the transverse crease at the bend of the wrist on the left arm for males and the right arm for females, use a thin bamboo slip to measure up to the fleshy end of the middle finger (excluding the fingernail), then cut it.
For males, use the left hand; for females, use the right hand. First, use a thin bamboo slip to measure the distance between the two transverse creases of the middle segment of the middle finger, and fold it in half to serve as "one body-inch" (Tongshen Cun, a proportional measurement unit based on the patient's own body dimensions) as the standard ruler.
First, have the patient remove upper and lower garments. Place a large bamboo pole across the patient, and let two people slowly lift the patient so that the feet are about five cun above the ground. Two other people should hold the sides to prevent shaking or instability. Then, place the standard ruler from Figure 1 against the bamboo pole, starting from the Weili point (Tailbone area) along the spine upwards, until the end of the ruler. Mark this point with ink; this is not an acupoint for moxibustion. This determines the location of the central point. Next, using the body-inch standard from Figure 2, fold two cun in half. From the central point, measure one cun to each side laterally; these are the actual moxibustion points.
To treat carbuncles, furuncles, back abscesses, all kinds of malignant sores, and breast abscesses in women: For the moxibustion method, take a strip of hemp fiber, measuring from the transverse crease at the Daquchi (Huge Curve) of the arm down to the transverse crease at the second joint of the middle finger. Double this length and cut it off. Use this standard strip, pressing it against the Jiehou point (Adam's apple), letting both ends hang straight down along the dorsal spine. Mark the point where the end of the strip falls; this determines the vertical height. Then, take another small bamboo slip, using one cun of the first segment of the thumb as the standard. Place this standard strip one cun lateral to the marked point on the back, mark one acupoint, and perform moxibustion with five or seven moxa cones (Zhuang). If the sore has already ulcerated, after moxibustion, if the wound closes within two or three days, move one cun inward from the previous point, mark another acupoint, and perform moxibustion with five, seven, or ten moxa cones. All these point-marking methods follow the rule of left for males and right for females, without any deviation. This moxibustion method has saved many lives with immediate miraculous effects, so it is printed in this book to relieve suffering and must not be neglected.

When marking points for moxibustion, one must sit upright with hands hanging naturally on the knees. The head must not bow forward/backward or shake sideways, lest the acupoints be missed. Remember this well.
The moxibustion method states: Various yang-heat pathogens cause carbuncles and sores. Therefore, moxa is applied to the bilateral Quchi (Pool at the End) points of the hands, Shousanli (Hand Three Li) points, the gap behind the acromion bone (near Jianjing), Fengshi (Wind Market) points of the legs, the gap on the upper leg bone (near Yanglingquan), and Zusanli (Leg Three Li) points. The moxa cone should be the size of a wheat grain, three moxa cones per point, which can immediately relieve pain.
Also, for treating all kinds of malignant sores, throat obstruction, back abscesses, etc., use a fine rope or ribbon. Measure using the second phalanx of the patient's right thumb while the arm is extended straight. Hold the rope against the heart area to determine its length, fold it in half horizontally. Drape the rope over the patient's throat onto the back. Identify the nearest point on the back, add one cun to each end of the folded rope, and mark the points flanking the spinal column for moxibustion. Moxa three cones at each point for immediate effect (Transmitted by Zhao Tangqing).
