[Caodoukou Wan (Grass Cardamom Pill)] Treats stomach pain at the epigastrium caused by irregular diet and overexertion leading to Spleen-Stomach Qi Deficiency (Spleen-Stomach Qi Deficiency). The Heart Fire takes advantage of this deficiency to invade, failing to nourish the Heart and Lungs, resulting in the decline of Upper Jiao Yuan Qi (Primordial Qi of the Upper Burner). When encountering winter cold, the Cold Water of the Kidney and Bladder becomes excessive. According to the principle that "the child can make the mother substantial," the Cold Water assists Lung Metal, making it overly vigorous. Lung Metal then controls Heart Fire and invades Spleen Earth, causing pain in the epigastrium directly behind the heart. This is a case of "great retaliation" in Five Element theory, as stated in the classics: "Great control leads to great recovery." This is a common principle. Consequently, Yuan Qi is exhausted externally in the skin, hair, blood vessels, and muscle layers. Simultaneously, the patient is attacked by both Great Cold and Great Dryness pathogens. The person suffers from aversion to wind and cold, tinnitus, pulling pain between the waist and back, nasal congestion with loss of smell, cold forehead and headache, occasional dizziness. Cold Water counter-attacks Spleen Earth, causing profuse phlegm and saliva, regurgitation of food, frequent abdominal pain, Heart-Stomach pain, tightness and contraction under the hypochondrium, intermittent pain preventing abdominal extension, frequent diarrhea without constipation, continuous passage of flatus, or borborygmus in the abdomen. There is chaotic Qi in the chest, restlessness, and symptoms resembling Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome). The diaphragm and throat are blocked, sometimes with audible sounds. Shortness of breath occurs via the nose, worsening with cold. Symptoms may temporarily improve after inhaling air in a warm place but recur upon exposure to cold. The limbs are cold (Jue Ni), the body feels heavy and difficult to turn, and the head cannot be turned back. Frequent urination with yawning indicates extreme Spleen Deficiency.
