1. Syndrome differentiation should be prioritized. Ancient sages stated: Prescribing medication is not difficult; differentiating syndromes is difficult, and it is especially challenging for infants. Differentiating syndromes in infants requires observing Shen Qi (Spirit and Vitality), examining facial complexion and body shape, inspecting the face, observing the eyes, ears, lips, teeth, and nose tip (Bi Zhun), verifying tongue coating, diagnosing finger veins, observing hands and feet, listening to vocal sounds, palpating the chest and abdomen, inquiring about urination and defecation, and waiting for the pulse.
2. Therapeutic principles should be detailed. The primary method is massage (An Mo), followed by pinching (Qia), kneading (Rou), pushing (Tui), rotating (Yun), rubbing (Cuo), and shaking (Yao), collectively known as the Eight Methods. Additionally, sweating (Han), vomiting (Tu), and purging (Xia) methods are established. All excellent techniques from acupuncture, Bian stone therapy, cauterization, and herbal baths are incorporated. Furthermore, nine external treatment methods from Ji Cheng and one self-developed method by the author "Ti Li Zi" are appended.
3. Acupoint selection should be illustrated. Massage, acupuncture, Bian stone therapy, and cauterization all require precise explanation of acupoints. To clarify acupoints, diagrams are essential. Predecessors considered acupoint selection more difficult than pulse diagnosis. Therefore, the "Bronze Man" (Tong Ren) fourteen diagrams are placed at the beginning. Subsequent diagrams include the anterior body diagram, posterior body diagram, dorsal hand diagram, palmar hand diagram, and foot diagram. Some acupoint names recorded here are not found in the "Bronze Man" diagrams. Additionally, diagrams of the head and face, eyes and ears, hand pulses, finger veins, tongue coating, and various massage techniques are meticulously illustrated.
4. Syndrome treatments should be comprehensively recorded. Detailed regulations for applying various methods are provided. Since infants are most prone to Wind Convulsion (Jing Feng), this condition is listed first. Other common pediatric conditions are appended thereafter.
5. There are methods for infant care. Collecting the theories of ancient sages and experts into one volume and appending it to the book aims to help caregivers prevent diseases before they occur.
6. This book was originally compiled by Zhou Yufan. Where the author elaborates and clarifies, he extensively cites various books and ancient teachings. The collected content is more than double that of Zhou's original work. Passages containing the author's own insights are annotated with "Ti Li Zi" to distinguish them.
7. This book excels in manual external therapies and does not rely on herbal decoctions, truly benefiting infants. If rural women and elderly farmers study it and acquire the authentic transmission, they will avoid the risk of misdiagnosis and mistreatment.
8. This book widely benefits infants. The publisher has made secret techniques public, hoping that every household will possess a copy. By following the diagrams to select acupoints, treatment becomes very easy. Thus, it offers some contribution to the art of saving lives.
9. This book disseminates family-secret manual therapies through publication funded by contributions. Subsequently, "Sha Hou Zheng Yi" (Correct Principles for Sha and Sore Throat) in one volume and "Dou Zhen Bian Zheng Lu" (Record of Syndrome Differentiation for Smallpox and Measles) in four volumes will be published successively.
10. The first volume on syndrome differentiation includes both text and diagrams, arranged in the order of Inspection (Wang), Auscultation and Olfaction (Wen), Inquiry (Wen), and Palpation (Qie). Sources cited from various books have the author's surname or book title noted beside each item to clarify origins. Each chapter concludes with commentary remarks.
11. As this book is famous for massage, the second volume begins with massage, with other methods appended afterward, to avoid criticism of giving undue prominence to secondary aspects over the main theme.
12. In this book, the symbol HT is used for sentence breaks, ○ is used for important points, and another symbol is used for eye-catching points, aiming for immediate clarity.
