Gao liang zhi bian (changes caused by rich and greasy food) refers to excessive consumption of rich and sweet flavors; Qi and blood both flourishing refers to a strong congenital constitution; Kang yang shang yan (hyperactive Yang flaming upward) refers to excessive Yang rising, with Yin fluids failing to restrain it; Xie ru jing luo (pathogenic factors entering the meridians) refers to external pathogens invading the meridians without internal defense. Due to these changes, heat is generated; heat transforms into fire, and the nature of fire is to flare upward. The Foot Jueyin Liver belongs to Wood, and Wood generates Fire. The Mother (Liver) nourishes the Child (Heart/Fire), but when the Child's Qi becomes excessive, it rebels against the Mother, causing disaster and resulting in "reverse conquest" (Fan Ke). Since the Liver opens into the eyes, when the Liver is conquered, the eyes also become diseased.
The symptoms include abundant eye discharge (Chi) and tightness/astringency, red vessels penetrating the eyeball, and constipation/fecal impaction in the Zang-Fu organs, which indicates a severe condition. For severe cases, Shaoyao Qinggan San (Peony Decoction to Clear the Liver) is the primary formula, or Tongqi Lizhong Wan (Pill to Unblock Qi and Benefit the Middle) is used. If there is abundant eye discharge and tightness, red vessels penetrating the eyeball, but no constipation in the Zang-Fu organs, it indicates a mild condition. For mild cases, reduce the dosage of Dahuang (Rhubarb Rhizome) and Mangxiao (Mirabilite), use Shaoyao Qinggan San (Peony Decoction to Clear the Liver), or Huanglian Tianhuafen Wan (Coptis and Trichosanthes Root Pill). If Fire is excessive, take Tongqi Lizhong Wan (Pill to Unblock Qi and Benefit the Middle). If the eye orbits are ulcerated, take the aforementioned internal medicines externally apply Huanglian Lulganshi San (Coptis and Calamina Powder) to the ulcers to promote healing, and simultaneously use Dianyan Chunxue Gao (Spring Snow Eye Ointment) and Longnao Huanglian Gao (Borneol and Coptis Eye Ointment) for eye application, and use Bixiang Biyun San (Bi Cloud Powder for the Nose) insufflated into the nose to attack the excessive heat. This is the method for treating excessive heat with reverse conquest. Do not use this if the cause is not rich diet, flourishing Qi and blood, hyperactive Yang, or pathogenic invasion of meridians. Misuse will damage the Stomach with cold-cooling herbs, prevent the rise of vital energy, and cause harm instead of benefit. Alas, exercise caution.
Wind arises from heat, just as a fierce flame must be blown by wind; this is an inevitable mutual induction among things. Attracted by heat, it is considered external; lingering heat persists, inducing generation from within, considered internal. Whether external or internal, the pathology is the same, and the disaster of excessive heat has been described above. Adding Wind pathogen, the harm is not slight: Wind causes headache, Wind causes nasal congestion, Wind causes swelling, Wind causes runny nose and tears, Wind causes heaviness in the head, Wind causes soreness in the brow bones. If any of these occur, Qianghuo Shengfeng Tang (Notopterygium Decoction to Overcome Wind) is the primary formula. If Wind causes itching, wash with a decoction of Xingren (Apricot Seed) and Longdancao (Gentian Root). If patients have these syndromes, or refuse medication, or take incorrect medication, nebulae (Yi) will inevitably form. Nebulae may appear like clouds/mist, like silk threads, or like star scales. Star-scale nebulae may be single spots, three or four spots, up to dozens. Shell-cover nebulae result from long-standing disease, improper treatment reaching an extreme, often due to excessive intake of cold-cooling medicines damaging the Spleen and Stomach, preventing the rise of vital energy, developing gradually. One must clearly understand the meridians to achieve effective treatment.
Nebulae emerging from inside outward indicate pathogenic invasion of the Hand Taiyang and Foot Taiyang meridians; treat the Small Intestine and Bladder meridians, add Manjingzi (Vittex Seed) and Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), use Qianghuo Shengfeng Tang (Notopterygium Decoction to Overcome Wind). Entering via Ruiming and Kerenman points indicates pathogenic invasion of the Foot Shaoyang, Hand Shaoyang, and Hand Taiyang meridians; treat the Gallbladder, Sanjiao, and Small Intestine meridians, add Longdancao (Gentian Root) and Gaoben (Ligusticum Sinense Rhizome), add a small amount of Renshen (Ginseng Radix), use Qianghuo Shengfeng Tang (Notopterygium Decoction to Overcome Wind). Developing downward from the Eye System indicates pathogenic invasion of the Foot Jueyin and Hand Shaoyin meridians; treat the Liver and Heart meridians, add Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), double the Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), use Qianghuo Shengfeng Tang (Notopterygium Decoction to Overcome Wind). Developing upward from Diguo point indicates pathogenic invasion of the Hand Taiyang meridian; treat the Small Intestine meridian, add Mutong (Akebia Caulis) and Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit), use Qianghuo Shengfeng Tang (Notopterygium Decoction to Overcome Wind). If Heat is severe, combine with medicines for treating excessive heat. Bixiang Biyun San (Bi Cloud Powder for the Nose) treats all the above conditions, generally acting like opening a pot lid; efficacy follows the syndrome, but the power is mild yet sharp, suitable for intermittent use to accumulate strength. Although initial stages are easy to cure and late stages difficult, gradual recovery through repeated treatment is advisable. Rushing recovery leads to failure. Some modern physicians use grinding nebulae methods or manual removal techniques. Alas! Nebulae are like sores, how can they heal quickly? Quack doctors using these methods do more harm than good. Fools accepting such treatments remain unaware and delighted, truly lamentable. Therefore, the treatment methods for Wind-Heat Uncontrolled Disease are recorded here.
