1. Heat-toxin steams the fetus, causing it to suffer injury; although the fetus is injured, the mother remains essentially unharmed. This is because measles (Rash) differs from smallpox (Pox). Smallpox requires internal fullness, so when the placenta falls off, the mother is prone to death. Measles requires internal emptiness, so after the fetus is expelled, the mother is prone to survival. However, rather than the fetus dying while the mother survives, it is better for both mother and child to survive intact.
2. The symptoms of erupting measles appear milder compared to erupting smallpox; however, if regulation and treatment are improper, disaster may follow swiftly. Smallpox arises from fetal toxin, so its severity and quantity can be predicted in advance. As for measles, although it also arises from pathogenic factors, mild cases can become severe, and severe cases can become mild; this depends entirely on whether regulation and treatment are appropriate, thereby ensuring safety. Therefore, dietary taboos for measles are stricter than those for smallpox. If chicken or fish is consumed, the skin will permanently develop a millet-grain-like texture resembling "chicken skin," which will re-emerge during epidemics of rash. If oily meat is mistakenly eaten, dysentery with pus and blood will inevitably occur during the monthly period of rash eruption each year. If salt and vinegar are mistakenly eaten, cough will ensue, and it will definitely recur during periods of rash eruption. If five pungent spices (Wu Xin: typically garlic, scallion, leek, chives, and asafoetida) are mistakenly consumed, there will be intermittent fright and fever; one must wait until after forty-nine days, or even one hundred days, before dietary restrictions can be lifted.
