Patient Tang (48 years old), fever, cough, profuse sweating, pulse wiry and fine. The medical classics state: "Cold damaging the form and cold drinks injuring the interior harm the Lung." When Lung Qi is deficient, Spleen Qi also becomes weak, and various symptoms arise from this. Treatment should regulate Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi). If treated as an external contraction and administered dispersing and releasing exterior methods, the root cause would be missed.

After taking the previous prescription for only three doses, the fever stopped, cough decreased, and sweating ceased. This is cultivating the Middle Qi, and the Lung disease also recovered. This is the method of "tonifying the mother for deficiency."
Patient Wan (37 years old), soft pulse, cough, the method should tonify Earth (Spleen/Stomach).
Dang Shen (Codonopsis Radix) Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Huang Qi (Astragali Radix) Dang Gui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, the body) Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) Fu Ling (Poria) Bian Dou (Dolichoris Lablab Semen Album) Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen) Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma)
After four doses, the illness disappeared as if lost.
Elderly Ms. Tu (63 years old), cough with qi rebellion for half a year, six pulses faint and fine, every time lying down at night, still suffering from qi rebelling upward, difficult to rest on the pillow. This is deficiency fire flaming upward, using Du Qi Tang (All-Encompassing Pill) added with Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) and Tian Li Pi (Sweet Pear Peel).
Mr. Wang (20 years old), body heat, dry cough, inability to sleep at night, spontaneous sweating dripping, both pulses deficient and rapid without order, eight or nine breaths per respiration. After this illness, the pulse is only fine and rapid, this is false excess. It is indeed severe deficiency of Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi), improper protection, abusing lung-dispersing methods, can one avoid the warning of severe deficiency?

After two doses, sweating stopped, heat retreated, cough decreased. Added Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) ten grains, Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) 2 qian, removed Bai Shao, Yu Rou, Xiao Mai, Long Yan Rou. After ten doses, fully recovered.
Mr. Zhang (31 years old), cough with night fever, resolving with sweat by dawn, abdominal distension after evening meal, pulse soft and large. This is due to depressed emotions, sinking of Yang Qi, using Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction), four doses effective. Only cough remains, remove Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), add Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) and recovered.
Mr. Zhou (37 years old), comfortable when lying down, nausea upon sitting up, aversion to cold, cough, pulse wiry and fine. According to pulse and symptoms, it is indeed not insufficient Middle Qi, tonifying medicines are cloying and obstructing, difficult to administer immediately. It is actually due to external contraction, Lung stagnation with fire, dispersing, promoting flow, and clearing is the perfect strategy.
Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla) Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum) Su Ye (Perillae Folium) Fu Ling (Poria) Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus) Chuan Hu (Dendrobii Caulis) Lao Jiang Pi (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens Pericarpium)
Mr. Zhong (48 years old), chronic labor-induced cough with much phlegm, unable to lie supine, right lateral position feels even more qi rebelling and uneasy. This is due to Kidney Water deficiency, Fire rising, Stomach deficiency failing to descend, administering Du Qi Wan (All-Encompassing Pill) added with Qing Qian (Lead Plumbum), shortness of breath slightly reduced. Self-reported that qi does not rebel upward, can rest on pillow comfortably enough, turning over all night has lasted one month. Humans rely on rest to nourish Ying Blood, reaching this state of illness is truly hard to bear. Thought of a prescription, left governs ascending, right governs descending, belonging to Liver Wood of the East and Lung Metal of the West. Qi rebelling and failing to descend, blame lies in Lung failing to clear and descend, Autumn function not performing.
Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen) (2 qian) Fu Shen (Poria cum Radice) (2 qian) Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla) (6 fen) Ju Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (6 fen, stir-fried with Qiushi water) Fen Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (2 qian. The above five herbs are white in color, promote descending function, and harmonize Lung Qi) Gou Teng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis) (3 qian) Ju Hua Tan (Chrysanthemi Flos Charred) (Harmonizes Liver Yang, slows qi rebellion.)
The formulation lies in good intent, not in the heaviness or lightness of herbs. One dose was effective. The patient was overjoyed, offered heavy payment for antiques. Because his family was poor, he refused, replied that your illness cannot be cured overnight, could sell valuables for conditioning during illness. Later, because he did not abstain from alcohol and sex, he still died.
Mr. Lu (17 years old), fever, cough, tongue coating dry and yellow, pulse fine, rapid, and moving. This is due to external contraction of Wind-Heat, internal fright, Phlegm-Qi knotting in the Middle Jiao, treatment should release the muscle layer and open depression.
Xing Ren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) Lian Qiao (Forsythiae Fructus) Ju Hong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum) Chuan Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) Gua Lou Pi (Trichosanthis Pericarpium) Yu Jin (Curcumae Radix)

Three doses cured.
Mr. Mao (51 years old), cough for eight months, previously hemoptysis, recently expectorating phlegm, emaciation, loss of voice, night fever, rapid pulse, accumulated labor leading to consumptive disease.

Six doses, the illness disappeared as if lost.
Ms. Jiang (25 years old), pulse fine and rapid, yearly cough, intermittent chills and fever. Treatment should tonify Earth to stop cough, nourish Ying to remove heat. Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction) added with Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen). Four doses reduced illness, another ten doses can cure.
Ms. Ni (46 years old), cough with qi rebellion for years, recurring every spring, gradually improving in summer. Now it is Minor Heat, illness increased instead, internal heat, bitter taste in mouth, vomiting phlegm, profuse sweating, wheezing, back pain, both pulses deficient, rapid, slightly wiry. This is long-term cough damaging Lung, must steal Qi from the Mother, treatment method should tonify Stomach and clear Metal.
