[Diagram of the Convergence of Qi and Fortune over Sixty Years]
The verse states:
In the sixty-year cycle, there is a method for calculating fortune; if the Annual Fortune (Sui Yun) overcomes the Si Tian Qi (Heavenly Command), it is termed "disharmony" (Bu He).
If the Si Tian Qi generates the Annual Fortune, it is termed "favorable transformation" (Shun Hua); if the Annual Fortune is overcome by the Si Tian Qi, it is termed "Heavenly Punishment" (Tian Xing), often indicating disaster.
In cases of "minor rebellion" (Xiao Ni), the Annual Fortune generates the Si Tian Qi; if the Si Tian Qi and the Annual Fortune share the same Five Elements attribute, it is termed "Heavenly符" (Tian Fu), indicating excess.
For example, in the Ji Mao year, although Metal (Fortune) and Earth (Qi) are mutually generating, the branch Mao Wood occupies the position of Zi Water (Zi is Father, Mao is Son; Son occupying Father's position), which constitutes a rebellion in Qi dynamics.
"Si Tian" (Heavenly Command) refers to presiding over the correct command, primarily executing the orders of Heaven, located in the upper position.
"Annual Fortune" (Sui Yun) refers to movement and change, primarily governing the Qi responsible for the generation and transformation of all things between Heaven and Earth, located in the middle position.
"Zai Quan" (Earthly Spring) primarily governs the transformation of the Earth, operating within the earth, located in the lower position.
Within one year, there are these three Qi mechanisms—upper, middle, and lower—each implementing its transformative command. If these Qi mechanisms coincidentally align and converge, they penetrate their transformative function. Even without changes of overcoming and retaliating, there will be differences in whether diseases manifest slowly or rapidly; this is referred to as the "Middle Qi of the Year."
If the Si Tian Qi and the Central Fortune (Zhong Yun) share the same Five Elements attribute, it is named "Heavenly符" (Tian Fu). The term "Fu" means conformity.
There are twelve years of Tian Fu. Among these, those that also match the Five Elements attributes of the Twelve Lü (Musical Pitch Standards) of the year are further called "Year Meeting" (Sui Hui), and are named "Tai Yi Tian Fu" (Great One Heavenly符). "Tai Yi" is an honorific title.
Referring to "one is Heavenly convergence, two is Year Meeting, three is Fortune meeting," this situation occurs only in four years.
Regardless of whether it is a Yin year or a Yang year, Tian Fu years are termed "Law Enforcement" (Zhi Fa); Sui Hui years are termed "Order Execution" (Xing Ling); and Tai Yi Tian Fu years are termed "Noble Person" (Gui Ren).
When pathogenic factors invade the human body, encountering a "Law Enforcement" year results in rapid and critical illness; encountering an "Order Execution" year results in slow and persistent illness; encountering a "Noble Person" year results in sudden and fatal illness. This is because the Qi command penetrates deeply into the body.
Regarding Sui Hui, where the Heavenly Stems and Lü coincide but do not constitute a Heavenly Command: "Order Execution" is like a regional governor who lacks the power of law enforcement, thus causing no sudden harm; the illness merely persists.

The Ten Heavenly Stems of the year establish the Annual Fortune, which converges with the Twelve Lü associated with the year's spirit and Five Elements; hence it is called "Year Meeting" (Sui Hui), representing balanced Qi.
Therefore, regardless of Yin or Yang years, the four positions that receive the Annual Fortune are taken from the first month of the four seasons, namely the Zi, Wu, Mao, and You years.
Earth has no fixed central position; it resides at the end of the last eighteen days of each of the four seasons' final months. Thus, generally speaking, the Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei years also receive the Annual Fortune.
Additionally, there are four other years: Ren Yin years are all Wood, Geng Shen years are all Metal—these are two Yang years; Gui Si years are all Fire, Xin Hai years are all Water—these are two Yin years.
In these years, the Annual Fortune converges with the Earthly Branches, yet they are not called "Sui Hui" because they do not hold the command of the four central years.
Excluding the two Yang years, the two Yin years (Gui Si, Xin Hai), although not named "Sui Hui," still achieve balanced Qi due to the mutual support of the Upper and Lower Five Elements.
The growth of all things and the response of pulses will strictly conform to the season, without any early or late deviations.
Among the eight years of "Sui Hui," four years have Si Tian Qi identical to the Central Fortune, which are already included within "Tai Yi Tian Fu."
