*Taiping Shenghui Fang* records: Treating Hongxiangjiao (a general term for lower limb swelling, pain, numbness, etc., similar to modern rheumatoid arthritis or gout) and Bi syndrome caused by wind-cold-damp pathogenic factors, with limbs in spasm and curling, and feet so swollen that they cannot touch the ground. Take one liang of Perilla Fructus (Zisu), crush it, add two sheng of water, grind and extract the juice. Use the juice of Perilla Seed (Suzi) to cook two he of Coix Seed (Jingmi) into a porridge, and consume it with Scallion and Fermented Soybean (Congchi) and fresh ginger.
Another method: For treating Hongxiangjiao, stir-fry salt until hot and apply it as a compress to the affected area; after a short while, wash with hot water.
*Waitai Miyao* records: Treating Hongxiangjiao where the pathogen rushes upward causing heart vexation and restlessness. Place one or two dou of millet rice straw inside a cauldron, boil with plenty of water to obtain a thick decoction, remove the dregs, add one sheng of powdered Zanthoxylum (Jiaofen), and boil again for more than ten boils. Pour into a basin and soak/wash the feet three to five times until cured.
*Weisheng Fang* records: For treating Hongxiangjiao, use powdered Hematite (Wumingyi) melted with Bovis Colla (Niuji), mix evenly, and apply to the painful area.
Another method: For unbearable pain from Hongxiangjiao, use urine from a young boy (Tongbian) or adult urine. Place one toilet bucket, heat the urine, and immerse both feet. Cover the mouth of the bucket with paper or thin clothing to isolate the steam; reheat when it cools.
*Jianyao Jizhong Fang* records: For Hongxiangjiao with persistent redness, swelling, and pain not healing over time. Take one Black Aconite Root (Heifuzi), remove skin and umbilicus, process raw, pound into powder, mix with Ginger Juice (Jiangzhi) to form a paste, apply to the swelling. Re-apply when dry, continue until swelling subsides.
Another method: For Hongxiangjiao causing edema of the head and face, abdominal distension and fullness, and scanty, difficult urination. Cook and eat Portulaca Oleracea (Machixian) mixed with small glutinous rice slurry.
*Zhouhou Fang* records: Treating Wind-Toxin Hongxiangjiao. If the shins are swollen such that pressing leaves an indentation that does not immediately rebound, take Semen Kochiae (Qianniu), pound into powder, make pills with honey the size of small beans. Take thirty pills per dose, administered with Ginger Decoction (Shengjiang Tang). Cure is achieved when urination becomes smooth.
Another method: Treating the aforementioned condition where shin swelling causes finger marks to disappear upon pressure. A commoner suffered from this, and medication was ineffective. A Daoist priest instructed him to drink cow urine (Niuniao), drinking two to three sheng frequently, until urination became smooth, resulting in a cure.
*Qianjin Fang* records: Treating Hongxiangjiao in Lingnan, where swelling extends from the feet to the shins and knees, involving bone pain. Cut Ricinus Communis Leaves (Bimaye), steam until hot, wrap thinly around the affected area for two to three days, changing as needed; swelling will subside.
Another prescription: Treating the aforementioned condition. Pound the root of Saposhnikovia Divaricata (Suoyuan - *Note: Text says 'Shuo Gen', likely referring to a specific root, translated contextually*), mix with wine and vinegar in a ratio of three parts, add one part root, steam thoroughly, and apply to the swollen area. It will subside in one or two days. Also treats anesthesia/numbness.
Zhiye Wine: Take sixty jin of Zhiye (Leaves of Citrus species, often Poncirus trifoliata or similar), cut finely. Boil in four shi of water to obtain four dou nine sheng of liquid. Brew five dou of rice using this liquid according to standard methods. Separately boil Zhiye juice to soak the rice and participate in the brewing process. Seal for seven days. Drink the resulting wine; it is very effective.
