The *History of the Southern Tang* records: Feng Yan Si, the Chancellor of the Southern Tang, suffered from severe chest pain that persisted for days without relief. He invited Wu Ting Shao, the Imperial Physician Director, to treat him. Wu secretly questioned the kitchen staff, asking, "What does the Chancellor usually eat?" The cook replied, "He eats a lot of pheasants and partridges." Wu said, "I have found the cause." He administered Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction), and the patient recovered. This is because pheasants and partridges consume Aconitum (Wutou) and Pinellia (Banxia), so licorice was used to detoxify them.
The *Record of Famous Physicians* records: Lady Wang, a person from Zhejiang, suddenly developed several black spots on her face, which eventually covered her entire face with darkness. She sought treatment from many physicians without effect. Suddenly, she encountered a physician who said, "Lady, you have ingested food poison. I can cure you within one month." Later, it was discovered that his prescription consisted only of one slice of fresh ginger, chopped and crushed to extract juice. The dregs were dried by roasting, and then the juice was used to make pills. When asked about the rationale, he explained, "The lady frequently eats turtle doves. These birds often eat the seedlings of Pinellia (Banxia), thus ingesting its toxin. Therefore, ginger is used to resolve the toxicity."
The *Qingxi Xiabi* records: A merchant from Gusu traveled abroad for business. His wife kept several chickens waiting for his return. After several years, he returned. One day, they slaughtered the chickens and ate almost all of them. By nightfall, the husband died. Neighbors suspected infidelity and reported it to the authorities. Under torture, the woman confessed falsely. Prefect Yao Gong doubted the case and privately questioned the woman, who answered that she had eaten chicken. The prefect gathered dozens of old hens and ordered death row inmates to eat them thoroughly. Two inmates indeed died, and the case was cleared. This is because chickens eat centipedes, accumulating toxins over time; hence, health-preserving experts advise against eating old chickens.
Alcohol poisoning manifests as unconsciousness lasting for days, which is currently referred to as "Zhong Jiu" (drunkenness/poisoning from alcohol).
Boil one sheng of Heidou (Black Soybean, *Glycine max*) to extract the juice. Take one cup warm. No more than three cups are needed for recovery.
Crush Bai Luobo (White Radish, *Raphanus sativus*) to extract juice and drink it. Alternatively, eat it raw or decoct it for drinking; both methods are effective.
The *Zhai Xianlan* records: Lettuce (Wo Cai) originates from foreign lands and is toxic. Hundred insects dare not approach it. If snakes or vipers pass underneath and accidentally touch it, their eyes become dim, and they lose sight. For those poisoned by lettuce, crushing fresh ginger to extract juice and drinking it resolves the toxicity.
Consume one sheng of Yitang (Malt Sugar) entirely. Vomiting out worms will lead to recovery. Another method is to cook Congee with Xingren (Apricot Kernel, *Prunus armeniaca*) and Jingmi (Japonica Rice, *Oryza sativa var. japonica*). Drink two or three bowls to induce vomiting, which should expel the parasites (Jiaozi).
