Cut the tail of a sow and drip its blood into the orifices (mouth/nose) or wound of the victim; the toxin will naturally exit. *Yijian Fang* (Simple Formulas) records: A person slept in the wild to cool off due to heat, and upon waking, found a snake had entered his mouth and could not be pulled out. He used a knife to cut open the snake's tail, inserted two or three grains of Zanthoxylum fruit (Huajiao), tied it securely, and after a short while, the snake came out on its own.
*Bencao Yan Yi* (Supplement to Materia Medica) records: Someone was bitten by a snake for a long time and became comatose and exhausted. An old monk saw this, mixed one or two qian of powdered medicine with wine, and administered it orally, whereupon the patient revived. The monk then applied the medicinal dregs to the bite site for a long time and administered another dose, after which all suffering ceased. Upon inquiry, it turned out to be only two ingredients: Trogopterus Dung (Wulingzhi) and Realgar (Xionghuang). For all kinds of snake and insect bites, this method is invariably effective.
The Nanhai region has many snakes, especially Guangzhou Prefecture. A certain Vice Minister serving as a military commander heard that Realgar (Xionghuang) could suppress this venom, so he bought several hundred taels, stored them separately in silk bags, and hung them in the four corners of his bedroom. After more than a month, one day, black fluid dripped from above outside the bed, smelling extremely foul. Having someone lift the ceiling to inspect, they found a giant python lying dead and rotting across it. Consequently, all obstructions were removed. The dead snakes measured over one zhang in length and were as thick as pillars; dozens more were found nearby, coiled into nests. Hundreds of snakes driven out from within the residence were accounted for. From then on, the official residence was peaceful and quiet.
*Jiyan Fang* (Collected Proven Prescriptions) records: Households in mountainous and forested areas must keep Realgar (Xionghuang) on hand. When going out, take a pill-sized amount (the size of a paulownia seed), burn it to produce smoke, and use it to fumigate feet, straw sandals, robes, sleeves, etc. Toxic creatures dare not harm, and all evil influences stay away.
Pinellia Rhizome (Banxia) and Alum (Baifan) in equal parts are ground into powder, mixed with vinegar, and applied to the injured area.
Scorpions fear Alum (Danfan); snakes fear Realgar (Xionghuang). Furthermore, households in the southern regions of Yunnan cannot do without Realgar (Xionghuang), while households in the northern regions cannot do without Alum (Danfan). I personally witnessed northern vendors selling remedies for scorpion stings. They placed dozens of live scorpions in a bag as samples, took one scorpion and placed it on the forehead or forced it into the mouth to sting. Bleeding occurred on the forehead and tongue, followed by immediate swelling. They then rubbed the affected area with Alum (Danfan), causing the swelling to disappear instantly. Observers were willing to buy. This demonstrates that Alum (Danfan) is the premier drug for counteracting scorpion venom.
Another prescription: Apply saliva from a chicken's mouth to the affected area for recovery.
Another prescription: Grind Arisaema Rhizome (Nanxing) and Alum (Baifan) into powder and apply to the injured area.
