Heart (The acupoint is located on the back. The classic states: "When pathogenic factors affect the Heart, it causes heart pain, propensity for grief, dizziness, and syncope. Regulate the relevant meridians based on excess or deficiency patterns. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones. Avoid drinking cold beverages after treatment.")
Jueyin Meridian Acupoints. The classic states: "The Jueyin meridian originates at Dadun (LR1), terminates at Yuying, and ends at Danzhong (CV17). Jueyin governs 'closing' (He); if this function is compromised, Qi fails and grief ensues. Treatment involves selecting Jueyin meridian points and regulating based on excess or deficiency patterns."
During the fourth or fifth month of pregnancy, if Zang Zao (Visceral Agitation) occurs, characterized by propensity for grief, daily despondency with tears, frequent yawning and stretching, and symptoms resembling spirit possession where prayer and medical intervention are ineffective, use Zhang Zhongjing's Gan Mai Da Zao Tang (Licorice, Wheat, and Jujube Decoction). A single dose results in cure.
(Refers to deep sighing accompanied by sound. As described by Jia Yi of the Han Dynasty as "Tai Xi", commonly known as sighing.)
In the *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon), the Yellow Emperor asked: "What Qi causes frequent sighing?" Qibo replied: "Worry and overthinking cause the Heart vessels to contract. Contraction of the Heart vessels restricts the Qi pathways. Restriction leads to obstruction, so sighing occurs to extend and release the Qi. Treatment requires tonifying the Hand Shaoyin (Heart) and Hand Jueyin (Pericardium) meridians, and retaining needle retention on the Foot Shaoyang (Gallbladder) meridian."
It also states: "Patients with Gallbladder disease often sigh, experience bitter taste in the mouth, and vomit old bile. Observe the depression in the Foot Shaoyang meridian pulse and apply moxibustion." Furthermore: "Diseases of the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder meridian present with bitter taste and propensity for sighing. Treatment should be selected based on fullness/emptiness, heat/cold, and sinking/depression of the pulse."
Sighing caused by the Six Qi transformations generally belongs to Dryness pathogen injuring the Gallbladder. The classic states: "When Yangming [Metal] is in the Earthly Position, excessive Dryness causes propensity for sighing." It also states: "When Yangming Qi rebounds, it causes sighing and bitter taste." And: "When Shaoyin [Fire] governs the Heavenly Position, the earth becomes dry, cold arrives frequently, causing hypochondriac pain and sighing."
The *Neijing* states: "For propensity to sigh, select the Heart and Gallbladder meridians for moxibustion and acupuncture."
The *Jiayi Jing* (Systematic Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) states: "For pale/greenish complexion, frequent sighing, condition resembling death, chills, white urine, and difficult defecation, Zhongfeng (LR4) is the primary point."
Spleen deficiency causes aversion to cold, low mood, and propensity for sighing; Shangqiu (SP5) is the primary point.
Generally, for those prone to sighing, with poor appetite, alternating chills and fever, sweating, vomiting upon onset of illness (with relief after vomiting), select Gongsun (SP4) and the Jing-Well points. In Excess patterns: cutting pain in the intestines, cold limbs, swelling of the head and face, vexation, manic drinking, insomnia. In Deficiency patterns: abdominal distension, fullness of Qi in the abdomen, hot pain, anorexia, cholera-like disorders. Gongsun (SP4) is the primary point.
