Alcohol is of a great heat nature and possesses toxicity; its aroma and flavor are purely yang, making it an intangible substance. If one injures the body by drinking too much, the treatment should solely focus on dispersing the pathogen through sweating, after which the patient will recover. This is the most excellent method. The next best approach is to promote urination. These two methods eliminate dampness from both the upper and lower aspects, thereby preventing alcohol-related diseases. However, those suffering from drunkenness often administer "Jiu Zheng Wan" (Wine-Steamed Pills), which consist of drugs with great heat properties, to purge the bowels. Others use *Semen Cuscutae* (Qian Niu) or *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Da Huang) for purgation. This is a grave error: when the intangible Yuan Qi (Primordial Qi) is diseased, one should not use purgative methods that damage the tangible Yin Blood. The nature of alcohol is greatly heating and has already injured the Yuan Qi; applying heavy purgation further exacerbates this. Moreover, it damages the True Yin of Kidney Water and the tangible Yin Blood, leading to deficiencies in both. Consequently, Yin Blood becomes increasingly deficient, True Water (Kidney Yin) grows weaker, and the heat of Yang Toxins flares up vigorously, thereby assisting the Deficient Fire (Yin Fire). This results in the depletion of Yuan Qi, leaving the Seven Spirits (Shen, Hun, Po, Yi, Zhi, Jing, and Shen - mental activities) without foundation, shortening life expectancy. Otherwise, consumptive diseases may develop. The *Jin Gui Yao Lue* states: "If Jaundice from Alcohol is treated with purgatives, it will eventually turn into Black Jaundice." One must strictly avoid this prohibition. Instead, it is better to resolve dampness through upper and lower dispersion, using Ge Hua Jie Ying Tang as the primary formula.
Ge Hua Jie Ying Tang (Kudzu Flower Decoction to Relieve Intoxication): Treats excessive drinking, vomiting with phlegm reflux, mental restlessness and confusion, chest and diaphragm fullness and obstruction, trembling of hands and feet, reduced appetite, and difficult urination.
Ingredients: Ge Hua (Flos Puerariae Lobatae, 5 qian), Bai Dou Kou (Fructus Amomi Rotundus, 5 qian), Sha Ren (Fructus Amomi, 5 qian), Qing Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 2 qian), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 2 qian), Ze Xie (Rhizoma Alismatis, 2 qian), Gan Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, 2 qian), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1.5 qian), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 1.5 qian), Zhu Ling (Polyporus, 1.5 qian), Bai Fu Ling (Poria, 1.5 qian), Mu Xiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 0.5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with warm water. Once a slight sweat occurs, the alcohol disease is resolved. Note: This formula should be used only when necessary; one cannot rely on it to justify daily binge drinking. The medicinal properties are acrid and warm. Occasional use for alcohol injury will not harm the Yuan Qi because it treats the specific condition. However, frequent use will damage the natural lifespan.
Method for Treating Alcohol and Food Stagnation: When there is a sensation of stagnation of alcohol and food in the heart/chest, accompanied by abdominal distension and indigestion, rub salt crystals on the teeth and rinse/swallow with warm water. Within three times, the effect is like pouring hot water on snow (rapid resolution).
Ge Huang Wan (Kudzu and Coptis Pill): Treats excessive drinking causing alcohol accumulation in the chest, leading to hematemesis (vomiting blood) and epistaxis (nosebleed); also treats cases during summer heat where upper jiao accumulated heat causes sudden severe hematemesis approaching death.
Ingredients: Ge Hua (specifically high-quality white Kudzu root, 1 liang), Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis, 4 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Use *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Da Huang) decocted into a paste to form pills, sized like wu-tong seeds. Take 100 pills per dose with warm water.
Jie Jiu Hua Du Dan (Detoxifying Alcohol and Poison Pill, prepared by Yunlin): Treats excessive drinking causing generalized fever, dry mouth with irritability and thirst, and scanty urination.
Ingredients: Bai Hua Shi (Talcum, processed by water levigation, 1 jin), Bai Fen Ge (Radix Puerariae Thomsonii, 3 liang), Da Fen Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis, 3 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder. Take 3 qian mixed with cold water at any time, 2-3 times daily.
Another Prescription: Treats wind-cold contraction after drinking, characterized by fever and headache. Use Fang Feng Tong Sheng San (Saposhnikovia Decoction to Unblock Heroic Functions), add Huang Lian Xu (Radix Coptidis Cum Cauliculo, 2 qian) and Cong Bai (Bulbus Allii Cepae, 10 stems). Decoct in water and take warm.
