Baoying Baizhong Gao (Infant-Safeguarding Hundred-Medication Ointment) (Transmitted from Beijing): Treats pediatric ganji (malnutrition) and masses, diarrhea, dysentery, cough where the child refuses medicine, as well as trauma from falls or carriage accidents causing pain in hands, feet, shoulders, and back, and painful Hongxiangjiao (tropical sprue/foot rot) due to cold-dampness.
Qingshui (Bitumen, 2.5 jin), Weilingxian (Syneilesis Herba, 1 liang), Bimazi (Ricini Semen, shelled, 120 pieces, ground), Huangla (Beeswax, 2 liang), Ruxiang (Olibanum, 1 liang, ground separately), Moyao (Myrrha, 1 liang, ground separately), Zhenmayou (True Sesame Oil, 2 liang in summer, 3 liang in spring/autumn, 4 liang in winter), Mubiezi (Semen Strychni, shelled, 28 pieces, chopped and ground).
First, melt Qingshui (Bitumen) and Weilingxian (Syneilesis Herba) in a pot, stir evenly with locust or willow branches. Slowly drip into water to test; it should not stick to the hand and should pull like golden threads. If too hard, add a little more oil; if too soft, add more bitumen. Once the consistency is correct, add powdered Ruxiang (Olibanum) and Moyao (Myrrha). Remove from fire, place on ashes, and stir hundreds of times with a willow twig. Filter the ointment through coarse cloth into a basin of water, pulling until it forms golden threads. Change water frequently and soak for two days. Finally, store in a small pot over gentle heat. For injuries from falls causing broken-skin pain, heat the ointment over fire and apply until it penetrates to the bone and flesh; this is verified by effectiveness. Replace with hot water several times; bathing dissolves the accumulated hot blood stasis.
