Dried flowers and leaves of Rosa rugosa (Da Hong Qiang Wei Hua Ye), or dried by steaming over water (avoid direct fire frying). Use rouge (Zhi Yan) produced in Jining Prefecture that is purple like cinnabar (Yin Zhu); cotton rouge and oil rouge are not usable. Calcined alum (Ku Fan, refined by sublimation/flying), nail rust powder (Ding Xiu Fen). Use equal amounts.

Red Peony Root (Chi Shao), Honeysuckle Flower (Yin Hua), Tribulus Fruit (Bai Ji Li, thorns removed), Moutan Cortex (Dan Pi), Angelica Sinensis (Dang Gui), Halitum (Shi Jue Ming, select nine-holed variety, calcined), Flower of Crocus (Meng Hua, each 1 qian).
Rehmannia Root (Sheng Di, 1 liang).
Sheep Liver (Yang Gan, 5 qian).
For chronic pterygium or corneal opacity where long-term decoction intake is not feasible, adjust the dosage according to the formula: convert fen to qian, and qian to liang. Add extra Rehmannia Root (Sheng Di, 2 liang), Salvia Miltiorrhiza (Dan Shen, 2 liang), Cicada Slough (Chan Tui).
