(Treats various types of hernia.)
Xidangshen (Codonopsis pilosula), Shangmianqi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried), Jiaobaizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, charred), Chuanlianrou (Fructus Toosendan, stir-fried with salt and wine), Zhuqingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, worm-eaten), Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, each 4 liang, stir-fried with wine), Xiaohuixiang (Foeniculum Vulgare Fruit), Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata). Grind all into powder. Form pills with refined honey. Take with light rice wine. Each dose is 4 qian.
Another prescription: When hernia first appears, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, severe pain, and impending formation of a scrotal abscess (Nangyong), use fresh Digupi (Cortex Lycii Radicis, i.e., root of Lycium barbarum) and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), each 4 liang. Pound together into a paste.
(Treats Cold Hernia, attacking heart and abdomen with severe pain.)
Muxiang (Costi Radix, 1 qian), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Heichou (Pharbitidis Semen, head powder only), Yuanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma), Da Huixiang (Foeniculum Vulgare Fruit, 7 fen), Liangjiang (Alpiniae Officinarum Rhizoma). Decoct in two cups of aged wine until reduced to one cup. Take warm on an empty stomach. Pain stops immediately.
Another prescription: Use Chuanlianzi (Fructus Toosendan) flesh, stir-fry and grind into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with aged wine on an empty stomach.
(Treats Heart-Spleen pain.)
Caoguo (Tsaoko Fructus), Yuanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma), Wulingzhi (Trogopterori Faeces), Moyao (Myrrha).
Grind equal parts of the above into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with warm wine.
Another prescription for sudden onset of heart pain, with locked jaw and faint breath: Use five stalks of Laocongbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), pound to extract juice, and administer into the throat. Then pour down 4 liang of Mayou (Sesami Oleum). Once swallowed, the patient will revive. If it is caused by parasites, the presence of white spots in vomit or excrement serves as confirmation. Follow this method using Saochong Jian (see Prescription 80 below), Huachong San (see Prescription 81 below), etc., and the disease will heal itself.
(Treats Stomach Qi pain.)
Dan Wuyu (Evodiae Fructus, lightly processed, 4 fen), Chuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, each 2 fen), Ju pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, each 1 qian), Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, stir-fried with Baishao), Zhigancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata).
Decoct in water and take orally. Most cases of stomach pain are deficiency-cold; excess-heat cases are rare. In deficiency-cold patterns, there is abundant clear saliva, and pain is slightly relieved by hot drinks. Excess-heat patterns are easier to resolve. The primary treatment is Zhizi Qinggan San (see Prescription 77 below). Alternatively, Jiawei Xiaoyao San (see Prescription 26 above) can cure it in one dose.
Deficiency-cold patterns are difficult to treat and tend to recur after temporary relief. Alternate this formula with Buzhong Tang (see Prescription 10 above). Additionally take Liuwei Guifu Wan (see Prescription 8 above). Gradual recovery is possible. For patients with cold but robust constitution, presenting with cold limbs, pale face, shortness of breath, and vomiting even a spoonful of liquid: Remove Dangshen from the formula, add 3 qian of Zhifazhexia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum), and take with warm water.
