It erodes nasal polyps, sores in the lower part [of the body], white patches on the body skin, disperses dead muscle tissue of the skin, and expels erratic evil qi. It kills bee and snake venom. Long-term ingestion causes the brain to become full [distended]. It grows in Wudu, growing in the same mountains as Realgar (Xionghuang). Where there are gold veins on the shady side of mountains, the essence of gold fumes upon it, causing Orpiment (Cihuang) to form; it can be gathered at any time.
Original text from *Shennong Bencao Jing* (Divine Farmer's Materia Medica): Orpiment (Cihuang), taste is pungent, nature is neutral. It primarily treats malignant sores, head baldness, scabs, tinea capitis, and ringworm; kills poisonous insects, lice, body itching, evil qi, and various toxins. After refining, long-term ingestion makes one light [in body] and non-toxic. It primarily supplements qi, tonifies deficiency and damage, treats weak, painful, and cold feet, injury and exhaustion of the lower jiao, and strengthens yin. Long-term ingestion extends life and increases longevity, improves complexion, and enables conception. If taken without refining, it causes strangury (lin syndrome).
