The prescriptions in the *Jingui Yaolue* (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet) are used to resolve fungal toxins, instructing the patient to drink one *sheng* (unit of volume) of human fecal juice (Could this possibly correspond to three *ge* and three *shao* in modern measurements?).
The *Waitai Miyao* (Secret Essentials from the Outer Cabinet) records the *Jiyan Fang* (Collected Proven Prescriptions) for treating edema, utilizing urine from a yellow ox, taken once at three *sheng* (equivalent to two *ge* in modern terms). If no improvement is felt, the dosage may be increased further (If this refers to one *sheng* of human feces and ox urine as per modern standards, who could bear frequent administration?).
The *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept Up One's Sleeve) treats toothache by using one *sheng* of bark from the root of *Lycium chinense* (Goji Berry) processed with vinegar and heat, decocted to obtain half a *sheng* for gargling until recovery (If this were merely six or seven *shao* in modern measure, how could it suffice for gargling?).
Furthermore, the *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* treats Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome), characterized by unrelenting extreme thirst where excessive drinking can be fatal. It prescribes five *sheng* of yellow millet cooked in one *dou* (unit of volume) of water, reducing to three *sheng* of clear liquid, administered gradually in small sips (If this equated to one *sheng* today, would one not fear death from excessive intake?).
The *Waitai Miyao* records Cui Zhiti's prescription for bloody dysentery, employing three *sheng* of calcined stone (Haematitum), roasted until yellow, mixed with one *dou* of water, clarified, and administered as one *sheng* per dose, three times daily (Each dose corresponds to three *ge* and three *shao* in modern measures; could Haematitum decoction truly be taken in such large quantities?).
The Shu Gao Jiu (Atractylodes Paste Wine) in the *Qianjin Yaofang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) treats weakness of the legs due to wind-deficiency. It uses twenty-five bundles of fresh *Vitex negundo* branches, each bundle having a circumference of three chi, a length of two chi and five cun, and a diameter of two cun, burned to yield three *dou* of distillate (equivalent to two *sheng* today).
Thirty bundles of green bamboo, each with a circumference of three chi, a length of two chi and five cun, and a diameter of one cun, are burned to yield three *dou* of distillate (Try burning bamboo and Vitex branches according to these specifications; can you really obtain one *dou* of distillate?).
Under the entry for Qipo Wanbing Wan (Qibo's Pill for Ten Thousand Diseases) in the *Qianjin Yaofang*, it states: The optimal effect is achieved when the patient passes slightly more than three *sheng* of foul-smelling watery stool (If three *sheng* equals one *sheng* today, can it still be described as "slightly" passing?).
In Volume Seven of miscellaneous prescriptions in the *Qianjin Yaofang*, it is stated that for treating Bengzhong bleeding (metrorrhagia), one *hu* (unit of volume) of medicine should be taken to stop the bleeding immediately (If the blood loss reaches three *dou* and three *sheng*, could the condition still be salvaged?)
