The wind pathogen is located beside the ear, near the vertex, forming nodules that extend to the neck. The nodules are red and swollen, with pathways connecting bilaterally to below the throat, accompanied by alternating chills and fever in the body. Administration of emetic drugs leads to immediate recovery.
*Eleocharis tuberosa* (Elucao), *Rheum officinale* (Shandahuang), and the roots of *Arisaema heterophyllum* (Yenanning) are most effective. These three herbs are ground together into powder; upon swallowing, vomiting is induced. This condition is not severe. (Bingzhang notes: This condition is also suitable for internal administration of herbs that resolve phlegm, soften hardness, and clear heat.)
When this wind initially manifests, chills and fever inevitably occur, and three to five red spots appear on both sides of the throat gate. Cyanotic vessels cross horizontally across the chest, or red vessels descend vertically. The heads of these vessels can be pricked with a needle to release blood, followed by the application of "Divine Medicine Powder" (Shenyao Mo). In ten cases, almost none recover.
This wind causes tongue stiffness and redness/swelling, loss of appetite, and in severe cases, inability to speak and dry mouth. One dose of "Divine Medicine Powder" is used, followed by the application of *Sanningsan* (Three-Bitumen Powder, composed of three seeds of *Croton tiglium*) to the tip of the lingual frenulum. Recovery ensues. If there is no improvement, the patient bites the tip of the tongue to protrude it beyond the teeth. A needle is used to remove stasis, followed by another application of *Sanningsan*. After one shichen (two hours), the swelling subsides naturally. Internally, *Huanglian Jiedu Tang* (Coptis Decoction for Resolving Toxins) is administered; cold-natured medicines should be taken warm, strictly avoiding cold ingestion. It is feared that if upper heat is not cleared, middle jiao cold may arise. Once the middle jiao becomes cold, the ascending and descending of Yin and Yang cannot function, causing phlegm to rise with Qi, which could prove fatal.
This wind presents with a double-layered tongue, redness/swelling, and inability to speak. Needles are used to prick the red vessels on both sides under the tongue to release blood, followed by the application of "Divine Medicine Powder" to the lingual frenulum. If it does not subside, daily needling is performed. If still unresolved, "Divine Medicine Powder" is reapplied. Otherwise, it is feared that the condition will fill the sublingual area and penetrate, becoming a chronic illness and rendering the patient disabled. Internally, *Xiaofeng San* (Wind-Expelling Powder) should be taken. Herbs that drain Heart and Spleen heat should be used in larger doses.
Another prescription treats heavy-tongue wind, characterized by swollen cheeks, inability to speak, excessive phlegm, and extreme heat. Urgently, two large bowls of water from banana heart (*Musa basjoo*) are mixed with two large bowls of fresh urine from an uncircumcised boy (Tongbian). The mixture is slowly swallowed, yielding immediate results.
When this wind initially manifests with chills, fever, and a lotus-like layer under the tongue, the treatment method is the same as the aforementioned prescription for heavy-tongue wind.
This wind causes redness and swelling of the gum roots, resembling a leech (qi), with trismus (lockjaw). Pricking the gums between the teeth at the site of redness/swelling to release stasis, followed by insufflation of "Divine Medicine Powder," leads to recovery. (Bingzhang notes: Internal medications such as *Lonicera japonica* flower (Yinhua), *Forsythia suspensa* (Qiaoguo), *Mentha haplocalyx* (Bohe), *Morus alba* leaf (Sangye), *Bombyx batryticatus* (Jiangcan), *Scrophularia ningpoensis* (Yuanshen), and *Fritillaria cirrhosa* (Chuanbei) should be concurrently administered.)
