Commentary states: When pathogenic factors affect the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), they damage the Zang organs. Damage to the Qi of the Zang organs leads to hematemesis (vomiting blood). After a person suffers from hematemesis, both Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) become deficient. Yin and Yang become obstructed and separated, causing Yang Qi to fail to descend. Consequently, the body experiences deficiency-heat, mental restlessness with chest stuffiness, and dryness of the mouth and tongue.
