Discussion states: Blood is a yin substance, its waxing and waning resembles the phases of the moon, arriving on time, hence it is called "Yue Shui" (Menstrual Water). If a woman's Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) qi are deficient, and her meridians and collaterals are not harmonious, then the blood may arrive late or early, intermittently, in varying amounts, with different colors. This constitutes the syndrome of irregular menstruation.
