[Diagram of the Year of Wuyin]
Shaoyang Xianghuo (Ministerial Fire) governs the Heaven (Si Tian), Jueyin Fengmu (Wind-Wood) resides in the Earth (Zai Quan), and the central movement is Tai Zheng (Excessive Fire Movement). The year's Fire is excessive, and its Qi transformation operates ahead of time. Tai Zheng Fire descends upon Shaoyang Si Tian, which is defined as a "Tian Fu" (Heavenly符) year, also known as a Ping Huo (Balanced Fire) year, named "Shengming Zhi Ji" (The Era of Ascending Brightness). Its Qi is upright Yang and governs, its virtue spreads universally, and the five transformations are balanced. Its Qi is high, its nature is rapid, its function is like burning and scorching, its transformation is luxuriant, its administration is bright and shining, its climate is hot and sultry, its season is heat, its element is Fire, it corresponds to Summer, its grains are Wheat, its fruits are Apricots, its solid parts are vessels/veins, its insects are feathered insects, its animals are horses, its color is Red, its taste is Bitter, its body tissue is pulses/vessels, its musical note is Zhi, and its number is Seven. In humans: its zang organ is the Heart, it governs the tongue, and it nourishes the blood. Its disease manifests as spasms/clonic convulsions (Chi Zhong). This is the transformation of the annual movement.
Regarding the Qi of Heaven and Earth: Above, Shaoyang Si Tian is seen, with Yangming on the left interstice and Taiyin on the right interstice; thus, Heaven's Qi is upright and its administration is strict. Below, Jueyin Zai Quan is seen, with Shaoyin on the left interstice and Taiyang on the right interstice; thus, Earth's Qi is disturbed and its command is flexible. Therefore, wind rises violently, trees fall and sand flies, flames flow, Yin moves within Yang transforming into rain, and rain falls at the appropriate time. Fire and Wood share the same virtue, corresponding above to Yinghuo (Mars) and Suixing (Jupiter). Its grains are red and green/blue. The transformation of the year's Qi is: Fire transformation accounts for seven parts, Wind transformation for three parts, which is the degree of correct transformation. Feathered insects remain quiet, hairy insects breed, which is suitable for the year's produce. Armored insects perish, clear toxins do not arise, due to Earth's Qi restraining them.
Before the middle of the year, Heaven's Qi is governed by Shaoyang. Where Shaoyang arrives, there is intense heat and summer warmth; this is the administration of Shaoyang. After the middle of the year, Earth's Qi is governed by Jueyin. Where Jueyin arrives, there is the mansion of wind; wind transforms from fire, which is the command of Jueyin. Wind and heat are distributed together, clouds and things boil, Taiyin moisture flows horizontally, cold arrives at its time, and cool rains rise together. People suffer from Han Zhong (Cold in the Middle/Jiao), external sores and ulcers, and internal diarrhea and fullness. The sages, encountering this, adopt harmony without contention. Due to the recurrence of guest Qi, people suffer from cold and heat, malaria, diarrhea, deafness, dizziness/blindness, vomiting, upper oppression with swelling and color changes. In this year, Fire is Heaven's Qi, Wood is Earth's Qi, Wind and Fire meet, their Qi is specialized, and their transformation is pure. Furthermore, the Fire Movement dominates. The movement matches Tian Fu, Fire transforms into Shengming. Treatment should first target the source of transformation, suppress the excessive Fire Movement, and assist Metal Qi, so that violent diseases will not arise, and harsh ailments will not occur. For the year, use Salty-Cold herbs to regulate the Upper, Pungent-Cool herbs to regulate the Lower, and Sweet herbs to regulate the Middle. Employ methods of leaching, purging, soaking, and sweating. Since the movement aligns with Wind-Heat, many Cold transformations should be used; this is the constant treatment method.
First Qi: From Shen Chu (early Shen hour) on Da Han day of Ding Chou year to Wu Chu (early Wu hour) on Chun Fen day of this year, totaling 60 days and 87.5 ke. The Host Position is Shao Jiao (Wood), the Guest Qi is Shaoyin (Fire), and the central view is Fire Movement. Qi and Movement are identical. Earth's Qi shifts, wind prevails causing shaking, cold departs. The climate becomes greatly warm, grass and trees flourish early, cold comes but does not kill, and warm diseases arise. Diseases involve Qi rebelling upwards, blood effusion, red eyes, cough and reverse Qi, headache, blood injury with hypochondriac fullness, and sores in the skin and pores. It is suitable to regulate the Guest Qi of Shaoyin, tonifying with Salty, draining with Sweet, and astringing with Sour. Year grains should be red-colored, interim grains should be beans.
Second Qi: From Wu Zheng (mid-Wu hour) on Chun Fen day to Chen Zheng (mid-Chen hour) on Xiao Man day, totaling over 60 days. The Host Position is Tai Zheng (Fire), the Guest Qi is Taiyin (Earth), and the central view is Fire Movement. The wet Earth Guest Qi arrives, Fire is counter-depressed, white haze rises everywhere, clouds move toward the rain mansion, wind cannot overcome dampness, and rain falls. People are healthy. Diseases involve heat depression in the upper part, cough and reverse Qi, vomiting, sores emerging in the middle, chest and throat obstruction, headache, body heat, confusion, and suppurative sores. It is suitable to treat the Guest Qi of Taiyin, tonifying with Sweet, draining with Bitter, and relaxing with Sweet. Year grains should be red-colored, interim grains should be hemp seeds.
Third Qi: From Si Chu (early Si hour) on Xiao Man day to Mao Chu (early Mao hour) on Da Shu day, totaling over 60 days. The Host Position is Tai Zheng (Fire), the Guest Qi is Shaoyang (Fire), and the central view is Fire Movement. The year's Fire is in its proper position, above it is Tian Fu, below it is Si Qi. Heaven's administration spreads, intense heat and summer arrive, Shaoyang oversees above, and rain ceases. People suffer from Heat in the Middle, deafness and dizziness, blood effusion, suppurative sores, cough, vomiting, nasal congestion, epistaxis, thirst, sneezing, yawning, throat bi, and red eyes. They may suffer sudden death. The Fire Qi of this year is balanced; if Water Qi succeeds it, it will not be violent. The Classic says: "Below Ministerial Fire, Water Qi succeeds it." Hyperactivity causes harm, succession brings restraint. It is suitable to regulate the Guest Qi of Shaoyang, tonifying with Salty, draining with Sweet, and softening hardness with Salty. Year grains should be red-colored, interim grains should be beans. In this Qi, since the Si Qi is Hot, one must avoid using Hot herbs during Hot times.
Fourth Qi: From Mao Zheng (mid-Mao hour) on Da Shu day to Chou Zheng (mid-Chou hour) on Qiu Fen day, totaling over 60 days. The Host Position is Shao Gong (Earth), the Guest Qi is Yangming (Metal), and the central view is Fire Movement. Metal and Earth harmonize, Coolness arrives, intense heat transforms intermittently, white dew descends, and people's Qi is peaceful. Diseases involve heaviness of the whole body. It is suitable to regulate the Guest Qi of Yangming, tonifying with Sour, draining with Pungent, and draining with Bitter. Year grains should be green/black-colored, interim grains should be broomcorn millet.
Fifth Qi: From Yin Chu (early Yin hour) on Qiu Fen day to Zi Chu (early Zi hour) on Xiao Xue day, totaling over 60 days. The Host Position is Tai Shang (Metal), the Guest Qi is Taiyang (Water), and the central view is Fire Movement. Fire originally overcomes Metal, but Water counter-restrains it. Cold Qi acts as Guest, Yang departs, Cold arrives, rain descends, the pores close, rigid wood withers early. People avoid cold pathogens, and gentlemen are meticulous. It is suitable to regulate the Guest Qi of Taiyang, tonifying with Bitter, draining with Salty, firming with Bitter, and moistening with Pungent. Year grains should be green/black-colored, interim grains should be foxtail millet.
Sixth Qi (Final Qi): From Zi Zheng (mid-Zi hour) on Xiao Xue day to Xu Zheng (mid-Xu hour) on Da Han day, totaling over 60 days. The Host Position is Shao Yu (Water), the Guest Qi is Jueyin (Wood), and the central view is Fire Movement. Fire and Wood share the same virtue and follow smooth transformation, Earth's Qi is upright, wind arrives, all things regenerate, fog/mist moves. Diseases involve inability to control closure/opening (incontinence), heart pain, cough due to failure of Yang Qi to store. It is suitable to treat the Guest Qi of Jueyin, tonifying with Pungent, draining with Sour, and relaxing with Sweet. Year grains should be green/black-colored, interim grains should be rice.
In this year, Tian Fu acts as the Enforcer. Fire Qi is naturally balanced. If pathogenic Qi exists, it strikes the Enforcer, and people suffer from acute and sudden diseases. As the Classic states regarding "striking the Enforcer," the diseases are rapid and dangerous.
