论曰目属肝，肝受血而能视，则目之瞻视，必资血。苟因物损伤，致血脉散乱，则败血
侵睛，灌注瞳仁，害于瞻视，不早治或致丧明，故谓之血灌瞳仁。
治血灌瞳仁，昏涩疼痛。麦门冬汤方
麦门冬（去心焙） 大黄（锉炒） 黄芩（去黑心） 桔梗（锉炒） 玄参（各一两） 细
辛（去
苗叶半两） 芒硝（研半两）
上七味。除芒硝外，粗捣筛，每服五钱匕，水一盏半，煎取七分，去滓下芒硝末少许，
食后临卧温服。
治血灌瞳仁涩痛。人参汤方
人参 赤茯苓（去黑皮） 细辛（去苗叶） 桔梗（炒） 车前子（各一两） 五味子 防

上四味。捣罗为散，每服一钱匕，温水调下，食后临卧。

上六味，再研令匀细，每点如半小豆许，日再、良。
治血灌瞳仁。没药散方
没药（一两半） 骐 竭 大黄（锉炒） 芒硝（各一两）
上四味。捣研为细散，每服三钱匕，熟水调下。空心食后，日三。
Commentary states: The eyes belong to the Liver (Gan, 肝). The Liver receives blood to enable vision; thus, the visual function of the eyes must rely on blood. If injury by external objects causes the blood vessels to scatter and become disordered, then corrupted blood invades the eye, pouring into the pupil, damaging vision. If not treated early, it may lead to blindness; hence, it is called "Blood Pouring into the Pupil" (Xue Guan Tong Ren, 血灌瞳仁).
Treatment for Blood Pouring into the Pupil with blurred vision, dryness, astringency, and pain. Formula of Ophiopogon Decoction (Maidong Tang, 麦门冬汤):
Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong, 麦门冬) [heart removed, roasted], Rhizoma et Radix Nardostachyos (Gancao, 甘草 - *Note: Text says Dahuang/Da Huang, see below*), Radix Scutellariae (Huangqin, 黄芩) [black center removed], Radix Platycodi (Jiegeng, 桔梗) [cut and roasted], Radix Scrophulariae (Xuanshen, 玄参) [each 1 liang], Herba Asari (Xixin, 细辛) [seedlings and leaves removed, 0.5 liang), Natrii Sulfas (Mangxiao, 芒硝) [ground, 0.5 liang].
*Correction based on text*: Da Huang (Rhizoma et Radix Rhei, 大黄) [cut and roasted] 1 liang.
The above seven ingredients. Except for Natrii Sulfas, coarsely pound and sieve. Take 5 qian bi per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct until 0.7 zhan remains, remove dregs, add a little ground Natrii Sulfas, take warm after meals and before sleep.
Treatment for Blood Pouring into the Pupil with dryness, astringency, and pain. Formula of Ginseng Decoction (Renshen Tang, 人参汤):
Radix Ginseng (Renshen, 人参) 1 liang, Poria Cocos cum Ligno Rubro (Chifuling, 赤茯苓) [black skin removed] 1 liang, Herba Asari (Xixin, 细辛) [seedlings and leaves removed] 1 liang, Radix Platycodi (Jiegeng, 桔梗) [roasted] 1 liang, Semen Plantaginis (Cheqianzi, 车前子) [each 1 liang], Fructus Schisandrae (Wuweizi, 五味子) 0.5 liang, Radix Saposhnikoviae (Fangfeng, 防风) [prickles removed] 0.5 liang.
The above seven ingredients. Coarsely pound and sieve. Take 5 qian bi per dose, add 1.5 zhan of water, decoct until 0.7 zhan remains, remove dregs, take warm after meals and before sleep.
Treatment for Blood Pouring into the Pupil with unbearable pain. Formula of Rehmannia Powder (Dihuang San, 地黄散):
Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Sheng Gan Dihuang, 生干地黄) [roasted] 2 liang, Rhizoma et Radix Rhei (Dahuang, 大黄) [cut and roasted] 2 liang, Natrii Sulfas (Puxiao, 朴硝) [ground] 2 liang, Myrrha (Moyao, 没药) [ground] 0.5 liang.
The above four ingredients. Pound, sift, and make into powder. Take 1 qian bi per dose, mix with warm water, take after meals and before sleep.
Treatment for Blood Pouring into the Pupil with gradually developing nebula or cataract. Pearl Eye-Drop Powder (Zhuzhen San, 真珠散):
Pearl (Zhenzhu, 真珠) [ground], Rock Crystal (Shuijing, 水精) [ground], Amber (Hupo, 琥珀) [ground], Concha Heterodon (Shijueming, 石决明) [ground to powder, each 0.5 liang], Cinnabar (Dansha, 丹砂) [ground] 1 liang, Borneolum Syntheticum (Longnao, 龙脑) [ground] 1 fen.
The above six ingredients, grind again until uniform and fine. Instill as much as half a small bean per time, twice daily. Good.
Treatment for Blood Pouring into the Pupil. Myrrha Powder (Moyao San, 没药散):
Myrrha (Moyao, 没药) 1.5 liang, Dragon's Blood (Qijie, 骐竭), Rhizoma et Radix Rhei (Dahuang, 大黄) [cut and roasted], Natrii Sulfas (Mangxiao, 芒硝) [each 1 liang].
The above four ingredients. Pound and grind into fine powder. Take 3 qian bi per dose, mix with boiled water. On an empty stomach, after meals, three times daily.
