Commentary states: The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian is exteriorly-interiorly related to the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian. Its physiological nature prefers warmth and dislikes cold; it requires warmth to properly transform and transport food and fluids. If Stomach Qi is insufficient, Cold-Pathogenic Factors may invade, leading to coldness in the lower legs, inability to lie down comfortably, aversion to wind with a sensation of chilliness, tension in the eyes, frequent abdominal pain, distension and hyperactive bowel sounds in the hypochondriac region, alternating chills and fever, dry lips and mouth, edema of the face and eyes, difficulty swallowing food and drink. All these are caused by deficiency-cold of the Stomach.
