It is discussed that in Bi syndrome (Bi Syndrome, a condition characterized by obstruction and pain), if the pathogen is in the bone, there is a feeling of heaviness; if in the skin, there is coldness; if in the muscle, there is numbness and insensitivity; if in the sinews, there is flexion without extension; if in the vessels, there is blood coagulation and stagnation. When this occurs in the lower back and legs, it is called Cold Bi (Cold Bi Syndrome). This is also caused by the mixed combination of Wind, Cold, and Dampness pathogens. Since the Kidney governs the lower back and legs, its meridians are invaded by Cold Evil and Cold Qi. When this Cold Qi pours into the lower back and legs, it causes cold pain in the knees, shins, thighs, lower back, and spine, along with muscle numbness and insensitivity. Hence, it is named "Cold Bi."
