It is stated in the discussion: The *Neijing* (Inner Canon) mentions that when Yang Qi (vital energy associated with warmth and activity) is subjected to extreme anger, the formative Qi (nutritive energy) becomes severed, causing Blood (the physical substance nourishing the body) to stagnate in the upper part of the body, leading to a condition known as Bo Jue (sudden fainting or collapse due to upward rushing of Qi and Blood). The pure Qi of Heaven is clear and tranquil; when one aligns with this, the mind and will are regulated. Following this principle consolidates Yang Qi. However, if provoked by external stimuli into anger, Qi rushes upward, causing the form and Qi to become disconnected, and Blood follows suit. Consequently, the symptoms manifest as stagnation and knotting in the chest, along with cold limbs and loss of consciousness (Jue Ni) caused by the obstruction of Qi.
Formula for treating sudden anger-induced upward reversal of Qi, discomfort in the chest, and severe hematemesis: Chifuling Tang (Red Poria Decoction)
Chifuling (Poria Cocos, removed black skin) [2 liang]
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) [2 liang]
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, removed radicle and stir-fried) [1 liang]
Chenju pi (Aged Tangerine Peel, soaked in water, white pith removed, dried) [1 liang]
Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, removed heart and dried) [0.5 liang]
Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) [0.5 liang]
Binglang (Arecae Semen) [0.5 liang]
The above seven herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted. For each dose, take five qianbi (approx. 5-7 grams), add one dan and half zhang of water, three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and decoct until eight parts remain. Strain and take warm, at any time.
Formula for treating resentment and anger causing upward reversal of Qi that fails to descend, thereby injuring the Liver, with Blood stagnating in the chest, leading to Bo Jue, and severe cases involving hematemesis and mental restlessness: Huangqi Tang (Astragalus Decoction)
Huangqi (Astragali Radix, cut into pieces) [2 liang]
Fushen (Poria Cocos with Hostwood) [1 liang]
Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix, removed heart and dried) [1 liang]
Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus, removed rough bark) [1 liang]
Chenju pi (Aged Tangerine Peel, soaked in water, white pith removed, dried) [1 liang]
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, sliced and dried) [1 liang]
Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix, removed heart and dried) [1 liang]
Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) [1 liang]
Shenggandihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, dried) [1 liang]
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and cut) [1 liang]
The above ten herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted. For each dose, take five qianbi, add one dan and half zhang of water, three slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and two Dazao (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus) split open. Decoct together until eight parts remain. Strain and take warm on an empty stomach in one dose.
Formula for treating Liver injury due to resentment and anger, with stagnation and knotting in the chest, or even hematemesis, which arises from the conflict between Qi and Blood leading to Jue Ni (cold limbs and unconsciousness): Dazao Tang (Jujube Decoction)
Dazao (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus, fifty fruits, pits removed, dried, and separately pounded) [50 units]
Shenggandihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, dried, half jin, sliced and dried) [0.5 jin]
Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, heated until dry) [3 liang]
Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried and cut) [3 liang]
Except for the Dazao (Jujube), the remaining four herbs are coarsely crushed and sifted, then pounded together uniformly. For each dose, take five qianbi, add one dan and half zhang of water, and decoct until eight parts remain. Strain and take warm, twice during the day and once at night, without specific timing restrictions.
