Commentary states: Shan disease (Hernia/Abdominal Pain) refers to pain. When Yin Qi accumulates internally and is further aggravated by Cold Evil, it causes disharmony between Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, leading to deficiency of Blood and Qi. Consequently, Wind-Cold enters the abdomen, resulting in Shan disease. Symptoms may include lower abdominal pain with inability to urinate or defecate; cold extremities; periumbilical pain; profuse sweating (referred to as "white sweat"); or Cold Qi rushing upward to seize the heart, causing abdominal and cardiac pain; or tenesmus and abdominal pain. There are also classifications such as Five Shans and Seven Shans, with various manifestations, hence collectively termed "Various Shans." One should diagnose these conditions by observing a wiry and rapid pulse, which characterizes Shan disease. These ailments arise from weakness of the Zang-Fu organs, irregular diet, disharmony of Blood and Qi, and imbalance of Cold and Warmth.
Commentary states: Han Shan (Cold Hernia/Cold Abdominal Pain) is caused by the internal accumulation of Yin-Cold, obstruction of Wei Qi circulation, and knotting within the abdomen.
