Discussion on the condition of opisthotonos caused by wind. The manifestation is a backward arching of the waist and back, unable to bend forward. This occurs when wind-pathogen invades the Yang meridians, where pathogenic factors contend with righteous qi. When wind-qi prevails, it causes contraction and spasm of the sinews and vessels, resulting in the backward arching of the waist and back resembling the shape of a bow.

Herbs: Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) [remove roots and nodes, boil in water to remove foam, dry-roast] 3 liang; Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) [remove forked branches]; Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 桂) [remove rough bark]; Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术); Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen, 人参); Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 芎); Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) [dry-roast]; Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) [stir-fry with honey and cut]; Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang, 干姜) [processed]; Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi, 附子) [processed until cracked, remove skin and navel] 1 liang; Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren, 杏仁) [soak in water, remove skin and tips, use double kernels, stir-fry with bran] 3 pieces.
The above eleven herbs are cut into sizes similar to hemp seeds. Each dose consists of 5 qianbi (approx. 15g), boiled with 1.5 sheng of water until reduced to 1 sheng. Strain and take warm. No specific timing required.
Formula for treating stroke causing body stiffness like opisthotonos and severe trismus: Danggui Tang Decoction (Angelica Decoction).
Herbs: Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) [dry-roast]; Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin, 细辛) [remove seedlings and leaves] 3 fen; Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) [remove forked branches]; Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Duhuo, 独活) [remove rhizome head] 1.5 liang; Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) [remove roots and nodes].
The above six herbs are cut into sizes similar to hemp seeds. Each dose consists of 3 qianbi, boiled with 1 sheng of water and 0.5 sheng of wine until reduced to 1 sheng. Strain and take warm. If sweating occurs, avoid exposure to external wind. If trismus prevents opening the mouth, pry it open to administer the medicine.
Formula for treating stroke causing body stiffness like opisthotonos, "Flying Corpse" entering the abdomen, pain and syncope, intermittent attacks, sinew spasm, Shaoyin syndrome with alternating cold and heat, and trismus: Dahuang Yin Decoction (Rhubarb Drink).
Herbs: Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang, 大黄) [steamed three times]; Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shudihuang, 熟干地黄) [cut and dry-roast] 2 liang; Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄) [pounded]; Capris Fat (Qingyangzhi, 青羊脂) [finely cut]; Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang, 干姜) [processed]; Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi, 桂) [remove rough bark].
The above nine herbs are cut into sizes similar to hemp seeds. Each dose consists of 3 qianbi, boiled with 1 large sheng of water until reduced to 70%. Strain and take warm. Take twice daily and once at night.
Formula for treating stroke causing body stiffness like opisthotonos: Jifeng San Powder (Urgent Wind Powder).
Herbs: Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi, 附子) [one piece, processed until cracked, remove skin and navel]; Aconiti Karayanae Radix (Wutou, 乌头) [two pieces, processed until cracked, remove skin and navel]; Pinelliae Tuber (Tiannanxing, 天南星) [one piece, processed]; Agastaches Herba (Huoxiang, 藿香) [remove stems]; Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风).
The above eight herbs are pounded and sifted into a fine powder. Each dose consists of half a qianbi, taken with warm wine from soaked beans. Take two doses consecutively. If not cured, continue taking.
Formula for treating stroke causing back stiffness and opisthotonos, inability to lie flat, and trismus: Dadou San Powder (Soybean Powder).
Herbs: Sojae Semen Preparatum (Dadou, 大豆) [stir-fry until charred] 2 liang; Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang, 干姜) [processed] 0.5 liang; Zanthoxyli Pericarpium (Shujiao, 蜀椒) [remove eyes and closed ones, stir-fry until sweat appears] 1 liang.
The above three herbs are pounded and sifted into a fine powder. Each dose consists of 1 qianbi, taken with warm wine. Take twice during the day and twice at night. Recovery occurs upon sweating.
Formula for treating stroke causing body stiffness like opisthotonos, and various blood-wind disorders in women, where pathogens attack upwards and downwards. Long-term use improves complexion, moistens skin, dispels wind, benefits qi, and strengthens strength. Formula: Gouqi Infused Wine (Goji Berry Wine).
Herbs: Lycii Fructus (Gouqizi, 枸杞子); Bombyx Batryticatus (Wancansha, 晚蚕砂) [stir-fried] 0.5 sheng each; Arctii Fructus (Niu Bangzi, 恶实) [stir-fried]; Xanthii Fructus (Cang Erzi, 苍耳子) [stir-fried] 1 sheng each; Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) [remove forked branches]; Cannabis Fructus (Damaizi, 大麻子) [stir-fried]; Arctii Radix (Enshigen, 恶实根) [cut segments and cut] 2 liang.
The above thirteen herbs are placed in a silk bag and infused in 3 dou of high-quality fermented wine. Seal tightly to prevent air leakage. Open after seven days. When opening, do not face the bottle mouth. Each dose is 1 sheng, taken warm before meals on an empty stomach and before sleep. Maintain a slight state of intoxication. Chronic wind diseases will be cured within one month.

The above six herbs are cut into sizes similar to hemp seeds. Boil in 3 sheng of wine until reduced to 2 sheng. Strain. Each dose is 1 sheng, taken warm before meals.
Formula for treating stroke causing body stiffness like opisthotonos: Lvpijiao Wine (Donkey-hide Gelatin Wine).
Herbs: Colla Corii Asini (Lvpijiao, 驴皮胶) [roasted until dry] 2 jin; Clear Wine (Qingjiu, 清酒) 1 dou.
Boil the gelatin in wine until dissolved. Collect 6 sheng of liquid. Divide into twelve doses. Take slowly on an empty stomach.
