It is stated that mushrooms grow on rotting wood, and fungi sprout from decaying soil. Both are generated by the steaming and stagnation of yin-damp qi. Since they are not produced by harmonious qi, their nature must be toxic.
If mistakenly ingested, they cause incessant vomiting and diarrhea, (with severe cutting pain in the heart and abdomen), and in severe cases, the body turns black leading to death. Vegetables also grow in yin-damp environments; excessive consumption, or consumption mixed with fungi and mushrooms, may also lead to poisoning.
Gancao San (Licorice Powder) for treating poisoning from various vegetables, mushrooms, and fungi:
Zhi Gancao (Roasted and crushed Licorice Root, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) [1 liang], Beizi (Concha Arcae), Hufen (Cerussa/Lead Carbonate) [each 1 liang].
