[Neibu Danggui Jianzhong Tang (Internal Supplementing Cinnamon Twig and Angelica Decoction)] Treats postpartum emaciation and insufficiency, unremitting abdominal pain, shortness of breath with a whispering quality, or painful spasm in the lower abdomen radiating to the back, accompanied by inability to eat. During the first month postpartum, taking four to five doses per day is advisable; this formula enhances physical strength.
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 4 liang) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 6 liang) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 6 liang) Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 3 liang) Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 10 pieces)
The above six herbs are coarsely crushed, decocted in one dou of water until three sheng remain, filtered, and divided into three doses to be consumed within one day. If there is severe deficiency, add Liutang (Maltose, 6 liang); after decoction, warm it on fire until dissolved. If Shengjiang is unavailable, substitute with Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 3 liang). If blood loss is excessive due to metrorrhagia or internal trauma with continuous bleeding, add Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, 6 liang) and Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 2 liang). Combine eight herbs for decoction, or filter the decoction first then add Ejiao. If Danggui is unavailable, substitute with Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
