Treats injuries resulting in lack of Qi and strength, deficiency exhaustion (Xu Lao), and various diseases; it enhances physical power, promotes appetite, and dispels Wind-Cold. (See the formula in Volume 17, under "Lung Organ," titled "Tonifying Qi, Regulating the Middle, Supplementing Extinction, Promoting Appetite, and Clearing Heat.")
Thirty jin of Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) are finely sliced and sun-dried. Another thirty jin of fresh Sheng Di Huang is crushed to extract juice, which is used to soak the dried slices until fully absorbed. The mixture is then taken out and sun-dried again. This process is repeated nine times. Finally, the material is ground into powder. Take one Fang Cun Bi (a square-inch measure) after meals with wine, and do not discontinue use.
Treats Wind-Lao toxicity and Cold, as well as deficiency conditions that have failed to improve despite numerous treatments.
Zhong Ru (Stalactitum), Zi Shi Ying (Fluoritum), Bai Shi Ying (Quartzum Album), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (each 5 fen); Gua Lou Gen (Trichosanthis Radix), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Chuan Jiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata).
The above sixteen ingredients are processed and sifted into fine powder. Take one Fang Cun Bi with wine, three times a day. Walking ten to fifty steps or more after taking the medicine yields excellent results. Young people should not use this formula. Other tonifying formulas are generally applicable for both young and old, especially suitable for winter consumption. (Named Geng Sheng San in *Qian Jin Yi Fang*, excluding Zi Shi Ying, Chuan Jiao, Du Zhong, and Fu Ling, but including Chi Shi Zhi, totaling thirteen ingredients.)
Yellow Emperor asked Gao Yang Fu about the Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries. Gao Yang Fu replied: The Seven Injuries are: first, Yin deficiency; second, clear semen; third, scanty semen; fourth, depletion of Yin essence; fifth, dampness under the scrotum; sixth, painful distension in the waist (or chest) and hypochondrium; seventh, cold and painful knees with reluctance to walk, bone-steaming fever, tearing when looking far, dry mouth, borborygmus in the abdomen, intermittent fever, dribbling urination, pain in the penis, or spontaneous emission of semen. Having such ailments constitutes the Seven Injuries. The Five Exhaustions are: first, mental strain from will; second, mental strain from thought; third, mental strain from heart/mind; fourth, mental strain from worry; fifth, physical fatigue. Yellow Emperor asked: How to treat them? Gao Yang Fu said: Shi Wei Wan is indicated.
Shi Wei (Pyrrosiae Folium), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Shi (Mineral drug, text incomplete), Yuan Zhi (Polygalae Radix), Fu Ling (Poria), Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), She Chuang Zi (Cnidii Fructus), Rong Rong (Cynomorii Herba), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Tian Xiong (Aconiti Radix), Shan Yu Rou (Corni Fructus), Bai Zi Ren (Biota Semen), Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix), Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) (each 2 liang); Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chi Shi Zhi (Kaolinitum) (each 3 liang).
The above nineteen ingredients are ground into powder. Take date paste resembling honey to bind the powder into pills the size of wu zi (wu berry seeds). Take thirty pills with wine, three times a day. Recovery occurs within seven days, and all diseases are eliminated within twenty days. Long-term use is beneficial. (Cui's version lacks the mineral 'Shi', has different amounts for Fu Ling, Ze Xie, Jie Geng, and Shan Yao, and adds Gua Lou Gen 2.5 liang.)
