Stomach Excess-Heat Syndrome
When the yang aspect of the pulse at the right guan position is excess (full and forceful), it indicates a disease of the Foot-Yangming Meridian. The patient suffers from headache (recorded in *Mai Jing* as hardness and pain in the abdomen with heat), absence of sweating resembling warm malaria (Wen Nue), dryness of the lips and mouth, frequent hiccups (Yue), breast carbuncle (Ru Yong), swelling and pain in the clavicular fossa (Quepen) and axilla. This is named Stomach Excess-Heat Syndrome.

The above eight ingredients are coarsely crushed. Boil with 7 sheng of water to obtain 1.5 sheng of decoction. Strain off the dregs, add the Fresh Rehmanniae Radix Juice, boil twice more, then add the honey, and boil until 3 sheng remains. Divide into three doses. Adjust dosage according to age and condition for adults and children.

(One section on discussion)
Discussion states: The throat is the external indicator of the Spleen and Stomach. (It weighs 12 liang, is 1 chi 2 cun long, and 2 cun wide. Its circumference consists of twelve layers, corresponding to the twelve hours of the day). It primarily governs the smooth passage of water and food, and the circulation of Shen Qi (Spiritual Energy). If the Zang organs are hot, the throat will swell and obstruct, preventing Qi flow; this is treated with Wu Gao (Black Ointment) (see Prescription in Volume VI).
If the Fu organs are cold, the throat will feel as if something is stuck there, often causing a sensation of suffocation, itching, numbness, and excessive saliva/phlegm; this is treated with Mu Jiang Jiu (Mother Ginger Wine) (see Prescription in Volume VI). For heat conditions, use dispersing/opening methods; for cold conditions, use unblocking/warming methods. If neither hot nor cold, regulate according to the Zang organ status.
