Cut Quercus variabilis bark (Hupi, 槲皮) into three sheng, boil in ten dou of water until five dou remain. Use it cooled in summer and warmed in winter to wash the breasts; it can also be used to wash various chronic ulcerating sores. After washing, apply ointment or powder.
Take Tianma grass (Tianmacao, 天麻草), cut it, use five sheng, boil in one and a half dou of water until one dou remains. Wash the breasts according to cold or heat conditions to relieve itching. This herb has leaves resembling hemp, grows in winter, flowers in summer, and is red like the flowers of Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen, 丹参). It can also be used to wash impetigo-like yellow ulcers, pruritic gangrene, moist erosion of the yin, and infantile head sores. After washing, apply ointment or powder.
Qingfen (Burnt Cinnabar Smoke Powder, 倾粉) [This is obtained by burning Zhusha (Cinnabar, 朱砂) to produce mercury, collecting the black smoke on top; alternatively known as Xiangfen]. Fengshi (Alum Stone, 矾石) [each three liang].
Grind these two ingredients into fine powder. Mix with Jiajian (Nail Lacquer Solution, 甲煎) to form a paste consistency. Apply to breast sores three times daily. If prepared as a powder, mixing is unnecessary; if the juice adheres naturally, the powder may be used directly. This formula treats various heat sores, yellow ulcerating sores, impetiginous weeping and itching, male genital erosion and itching, moist eczema, infantile head sores, tinea capitis (Yueshi, 月蚀), perioral fatty sores, and other sores.
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 黄连) [two liang], Hufen (Lead White, 胡粉) [two and a half liang], Shuiyin (Mercurius, 水银) [one liang].
Grind these three ingredients into powder and mix thoroughly. Rub with ripe soft-skinned fruit to facilitate blending; even if they do not form a single mass, the mercury will disperse finely into the powder. Apply to breast sores, various moist sores, and yellow fatty sores. If dry, add Jiajian to make an ointment.
Formula for Du Ru (Agalactia-related Breast Abscess/Sore, 妒乳) causing breast sores:
Fengfang (Apis Ceranae Nest, 蜂房), Zhuji Zhongtu (Soil from Pig's Abdomen, 猪甲中土), Cheche Zhongtu (Soil from Cart Ruts, 车辙中土) [equal parts].
Grind these three ingredients into powder and mix with Kujiu (Vinegar, 苦酒) for topical application.
Formula for women with breast sores where the head weeps fluid and pain is unbearable:
Lujiao (Cervi Cornu Degelatinatum, 鹿角) [two fen], Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 甘草) [one fen].
Process and sieve these two ingredients. Mix with Ji Zi Huang (Egg Yolk, 鸡子黄) in a copper vessel. Place in a warm location, gently heat, and apply. Do this twice daily for cure.
Formula for Du Ru (Agalactia-related Breast Condition, 妒乳):
Use Kuijing Hui (Ash of Abelmoschus esculentus Stem, 葵茎灰), grind and sieve. Take one cun bi (square-inch spoonful) orally, three times daily, for cure. (Ji Yan Fang suggests grinding directly into powder rather than ash.)
Another formula: Burn naturally dead snakes to ash, mix with Zhu Zhi (Porcine Adipose Tissue, 猪脂), and apply externally. Highly effective.
