The *Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) states that although the parturient is in a state of impurity, during the time of impending labor pains, as well as before and after delivery, one must not allow family members who have been contaminated by death or mourning to visit. Otherwise, difficult labor will occur; if delivery has already taken place, the infant will be harmed. Furthermore, for women undergoing childbirth and lactation, it is taboo to give birth during the "Fan Zhi Month" (a month where the first day of the lunar calendar clashes with the earthly branches). If this month coincides with delivery, one should lie on cowhide or ash, and avoid... [text appears incomplete, inferred meaning: avoiding contact with unclean substances].
If childbirth does not follow the guidelines of the "Parturition Chart," violating taboos may result in the death of both mother and child. Even if death does not occur, both may fall ill, and all affairs will go unsatisfactorily. By following the chart and avoiding violations, mother and child will remain healthy, and the child will be easy to raise.
Additionally, when labor is approaching, it is particularly taboo to have many people watching. Only two or three people should be present nearby. Inform the crowd only after delivery is completely finished. A large crowd can cause difficult labor.
Moreover, the parturient must not be rushed or fearful; bystanders must maintain silence. One should neither act prematurely slow nor prematurely hasty. Sorrow and depression can lead to difficult labor. If abdominal pain occurs accompanied by a sensation of fire in the eyes, this indicates the fetus is turning but has not yet delivered. After the baby is born, everyone, including the mother, must refrain from asking whether the infant is male or female. Immediately after the infant's body touches the ground, remove any foul matter from the mouth and feed five he of newly drawn well water. It is taboo to provide hot soup or food, and the mother should not view any impure substances.
Furthermore, the parturient should be cautious with hot food, hot medicines, and hot noodles. Daily dietary practices should adhere to this principle; food temperature should be warm, akin to human skin temperature. (All above excerpts are from Volume II.)
Prescriptions from *Qianjin Fang* for facilitating easy delivery.
When approaching labor, first remove ordinary clothing. Cover the stove head and stove opening with a cage, making it airtight. This facilitates easy delivery and is highly effective.
Another prescription:

*Yufu San* (Premature Administration Powder) from *Duan Ju* facilitates easy delivery and ensures the mother remains disease-free. Begin taking this powder thirty days prior to the expected delivery date. For thirty days, walking and movement remain normal. The infant feels no pain upon falling to the ground at birth.
