[Pathogenesis] The so-called "Shui Zheng" (Water Syndrome) arises from the obstruction and stagnation of meridians and collaterals, where water qi accumulates within the abdomen, causing dysfunction of the large and small intestines. Its clinical manifestations include intra-abdominal masses that are hard and distended between the two hypochondria, along with generalized edema; hence it is termed "Shui Zheng" (Water Syndrome). (From Volume 21)
The *Shen Shi Fang* treats "Shui Zheng" (Water Syndrome) characterized by rigidity and hardness in the abdomen and chest/hypochondrium, generalized edema, and anorexia, using the *Haizao Wan* (Seaweed Pill) formula.
*Algae* (Haizao, 1 liang, washed) *Hydrargyrum* (Shuiyin, 1 liang) *Zanthoxylum semen* (Jiaomu, 1 liang) *Natrii Sulfas* (Mangxiao, 1 liang) *Lepidii Semen* (Tinglizi, 1 liang, processed) *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang, 1 liang)
*Kansui Radix* (Gansui, 1 liang, processed) *Pruni Semen Armeniacae Amarum* (Xingren, 30 seeds, tip and skin removed, processed) *Cinnamomi Ramulus* (Guixin, 1 liang) *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata* (Fuzi, 1 liang, processed) *Poria* (Fuling, 1 liang)

The above fifteen ingredients are sifted into fine powder, mixed with honey to form pills the size of small beans. Take two pills per dose, three times daily. If ineffective, gradually increase the dosage. Avoid pork, vinegar, raw green onions, and asparagus shoots. (Fan Wang's view is identical; From Volume 19)

The above sixteen ingredients are crushed, sifted into fine powder, and mixed with honey to form pills. Apply some externally to the swollen areas and take some internally: three pills the size of millet seeds per dose, three times daily. To promote purgation, take five pills. Contraindicated foods include raw fish, raw vegetables, and fatty meat. This formula was not passed down from Qianjin and is called *Qianjin Wan* (Thousand Gold Pill). (All from Volume 35)
[Pathogenesis] The so-called "Shui Jia" (Water Mass) arises from the obstruction and stagnation of meridians and collaterals, where water qi accumulates below the heart (epigastrium). Due to deficiency of the Kidney meridian, which fails to facilitate urination, water qi condenses and forms a mass. The Jia mass lies between the heart and abdomen; pressing it produces a splashing sound. The patient desires only to drink and not to eat, accompanied by generalized flaccid edema. This constitutes the pathology of Shui Jia. (From Volume 21)
The *Gu Jin Lu Yan* treats Water Jia disease, characterized by a sensation in the epigastrium like several sheng of oil bladders, producing a faint gurgling sound, drinking three dou of water daily without eating food, desiring only to drink. Long-standing illness leads to the formation of Jia, which becomes hard and resembles shrimp or turtles. The treatment formula is as follows.
Select twenty mature, high-quality *Ricini Fructus* (Biban/Castor Bean seeds), remove the husks, grind them thoroughly in a cup until smooth, do not pound them. Dilute with water to obtain three he of liquid. Fast overnight, and consume the entire amount in one dose early in the morning. Around noon, one should vomit or purge green and yellow fluids resembling okra juice, at which point the mass will congeal and wrap up. If the disease is not fully cured, repeat the administration of thirty castor bean seeds after three days using the same method. If the condition is like... (Text ends abruptly)
