[Pathogenesis] The condition of retained fluid (Liuyin) and retained food (Suoshi) arises from drinking excessive amounts of water after consuming alcohol or leftover food. This causes water qi to stagnate between the Spleen and Stomach. When the Spleen is affected by dampness, it loses its ability to digest food, leading to belching with a sour and foul odor, abdominal distension and fullness, sometimes accompanied by high fever or acid regurgitation. Hence, this condition is termed "retained fluid and retained food." (From Volume 20)
[Formula 1] Shenshi Tongcao Wan (Deep Master's Pass-Through Grass Pill), used for treating accumulations, retained fluid, retained food, alternating chills and fever, mental restlessness due to constraint, nourishing the skin and muscles, and supplementing deficiencies.
Ingredients: Zhaomu (Semen Lepidii/Descurainiae), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparata), Houpo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis Preparata), each 1 liang; Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), 5 liang; Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei Preparata), 9 liang; Tinglizi (Semen Lepidii/Descurainiae), 3 liang (roasted); Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum), 3 liang (skin and tips removed).
The above eight herbs are crushed and sifted into powder. Separately, Tinglizi and Xingren are pounded into a paste. Mix this paste with the other powders, combine with honey to form pills, and pound five thousand times for uniformity. Take two pills the size of a Chinese quince seed per dose. Avoid pork, mutton, and maltose. Highly effective. (Note: Although named Tongcao Wan, Tongcao is not in the formula; the reason for the name is unknown. From Volume 23)
[Formula 2] Fan Wang Qianjin Wan (Fan Wang's Thousand Gold Pill), used for treating retained fluid and retained food in the heart and abdomen.

All twelve herbs are crushed and mixed with white honey to form pills the size of small beans. Swallow one pill at a time, twice daily. It is recommended to take the pill after eating. If ineffective, gradually increase the dosage until therapeutic effect is achieved. Avoid pork, cold water, mutton, maltose, asparagus shoots, and raw green onions.
[Formula 3] Another formula for retained fluid and retained food: Sang'er Wan (Mulberry Ear Pill).
Ingredients: Sang'er (Auricularia Judae), 2 liang; Badou (Semen Crotonis), 1 liang (skin removed).
Pound the two ingredients and mix with jujube paste to form pills the size of sesame seeds. Take one pill before meals. If no evacuation occurs, take two pills. Stop when the pathogen is expelled. Avoid wild boar meat and asparagus shoots.
[Formula 4] Another formula for retaining fluid and retained food: Yuanhua Wan (Kerria Flower Pill).

Pound the nine herbs and sift. Separate Xingren and Badou, pounding them into a paste. Mix with honey to form pills the size of small beans. Take one pill before meals, twice daily. If ineffective, gradually increase the dosage until therapeutic effect is achieved. Avoid seaweed, Chinese cabbage, pork, cold water, and asparagus shoots.

To promote purgation, double the dose. Badou should be separately pounded into a paste. Avoid raw green onions, civet meat, vinegar products, wild boar meat, and asparagus shoots.
