Each dose is taken at intervals equivalent to walking for four or five li, stopping when bowel movement becomes smooth. Avoid raw green onions, vegetables, hot noodles, seaweed, Chinese cabbage, strong vinegar, garlic, and sticky foods. (From Volume II)
In Zhang Zhongjing's *Shanghan Lun*, lung distension is characterized by coughing with rebellious qi, irritability and wheezing, and a floating pulse, caused by fluid retention below the heart. The appropriate treatment is Xiao Qinglong Tang plus Shigao.
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang) (3 liang, nodes removed), Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi) (0.5 sheng), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao) (wrapped in silk), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Ganjiang), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin) (each 3 liang), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guixin), Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata (Gancao) (each 3 liang, prepared by stir-frying with honey), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia) (0.5 sheng, washed).
The above nine herbs are cut, boiled in 1 dou of water. First, boil Mahuang until reduced by 2 sheng, remove the foam on top, then add the remaining herbs. Boil until 2.5 sheng remains, strain, and take warm. Strong individuals take 1 sheng; thin, elderly, and young patients reduce dosage according to circumstances. Take three times daily and once at night. Avoid raw green onions, raw vegetables, seaweed, Chinese cabbage, mutton, and maltose.
Furthermore, in cases of lung distension where the patient wheezes, eyes appear as if protruding, and the pulse is large and floating, or when lung distension involves coughing, Yuebi Jia Banxia Tang is indicated.
