The etiology lies in the deficiency and cold of the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner). The Kidney governs water metabolism and stands in exterior-interior relationship with the Bladder. The Bladder is responsible for storing body fluids. If Kidney Qi is weak, it fails to control the body fluids, leading to deficiency-cold within the Bao (uterus/lower jiao region), causing water to flow without restraint, thus resulting in frequent urination. (From Volume 4)
Soushi Huang Tang (Peeing Master Astragalus Decoction). Treats weakness and fatigue, heaviness of the four limbs, or dry mouth, shortness of breath, scanty qi, and frequent urination due to various deficiencies.
Ingredients: Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 3 liang), Fuling (Poria, 2 liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 2 liang), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 2 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Zingibere et Alumine, 3 liang, washed), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 5 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 30 pieces), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 2 liang), Sangpiaoxiao (Mantidis Oötheca, 20 pieces, roasted and split).
Cut the above eleven herbs. Boil in 10 dou of water until reduced to 4 sheng. Divide into doses of 1 sheng each. Avoid seaweed, Chinese cabbage, mutton, malt sugar, raw green onions, and vinegar. (From Volume 4)
Another formula treats Xu Lao (Consumptive Disease) with abdominal fullness, poor appetite, and polyuria. Use Huangqi Jianzhong Tang (Astragalus Decoction for Replenishing the Middle).
Ingredients: Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 3 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 3 liang, honey-fried), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 30 pieces), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 2 liang), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 4 liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 4 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 2 liang), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Zingibere et Alumine, 1 sheng, washed).
Cut the above eight herbs. Boil in 10 dou of water until reduced to 3 sheng. Strain. Divide into three doses. Avoid seaweed, Chinese cabbage, mutton, malt sugar, and raw green onions. (Same as from "Gu Jin Lu Yan", Volume 19)
There is also Ejiao Tang (Donkey-Hide Gelatin Decoction). It treats Xu Lao (Consumptive Disease) with frequent and abundant urination. Some patients with Xu Lao who took powders developed intense deficiency-heat; upon exposure to wind and cold, they suffered from Hongxiangjiao (Beriberi/Leg Swelling) prone to flare-ups, accompanied by frequent urination and a fine, weak pulse. Taking this formula reduces the frequency of urination.
Ingredients: Ejiao (Asini Corii Colla, 2 liang), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 2 liang), Maziren (Cannabis Semen, 1 sheng, crushed), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix, 4 liang, heart removed), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 piece, processed), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 1 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, honey-fried).
Cut the above seven herbs. Boil in 7 sheng of water. Boil the first six herbs to obtain 3 sheng. Strain. Add gelatin and melt it. Divide into three doses. Another version states: if urination is extremely frequent, occurring dozens of times day and night, a dosage of 1 dan 5 dou is effective. Avoid pork, cold water, seaweed, and Chinese cabbage.
Duanju Huangqi Tang (Short Drama Astragalus Decoction). Treats Xu Lao (Consumptive Disease) with scanty qi and excessive urination.
Ingredients: Huangqi (Astragali Radix, 2 liang), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 2 liang, heart removed), Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, 30 pieces, torn), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 2 liang), Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, 2 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 liang), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 2 liang), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 2 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2 liang), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang, honey-fried).

Bixiao Fang (Must-Efficient Formula) treats Xu Lao (Consumptive Disease) with deficiency-cold of the Lower Jiao, slight thirst, and frequent urination. Use Huangqi Jianzhong Tang (Astragalus Decoction for Replenishing the Middle).
