刘涓子疗面 麝香膏方。
麝香（三分） 附子（一两炮） 当归 芎 细辛 杜蘅 白芷 芍药（各四分）
上八味切，以腊月猪膏一升半，煎三上三下，去滓，下香膏，以敷 上，日三瘥。
肘后疗年少气盛，面生 方。
冬瓜子 冬葵子 柏子仁 茯苓（各等分）
上四味为散，食后服方寸匕，日三服。
又方
黄连（一斤） 木兰皮（十两） 猪肚（一具治如食法）
上三味 咀，二味纳肚中，蒸于二斗米下，以熟切曝干捣散，食前以水服方寸匕，日再

麻黄（三两） 甘草（二两炙） 杏仁（三两去尖皮）
上三味捣筛，酒下一钱匕，日三服。

黄连（二两） 蛇床子（四合）
上二味捣末，以面脂和涂面，日再瘥。
文仲疗面 方。
胡粉水银，以腊月猪脂和，敷之。

熟研水银，向夜涂之，平明拭却，三四度瘥。

土瓜根捣，以胡粉水银青羊脂合涂面 处当瘥。
备急疗面 方。

上二味，以蜜和敷面上瘥。

牛脂（五两） 冬瓜仁（十合） 桃仁（一升） 猪脂（五合） 白狗脂（二斤） 商陆（一

上十三味切，煎三上三下，白芷色黄，其膏成，洗面涂膏神验。
又疗面黑似土 ，白蓝脂方。
白蓝（一分） 白矾（一分烧） 石脂（一分） 杏仁（半分去尖皮）
上四味捣筛，鸡子和，夜涂面，明旦以井花水洗之白蓝即白蔹也，甚妙，老与少同。
Liu Juanzi's Musk Ointment Formula for treating facial melasma.
Moschus (3 fen) Fuzi (1 liang, processed by frying) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) Duheng (Peucedani Radix) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix) (each 4 fen).
The above eight herbs are chopped and decocted in 1.5 sheng of lard rendered in the twelfth lunar month. The mixture is boiled three times (heated to boiling point three times), filtered to remove dregs, and then Moschus is added to form an ointment. Apply to the affected area three times a day until cured.
From *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* (Emergency Prescriptions Kept Up One's Sleeve): A formula for young people with vigorous qi and blood developing facial melasma.
Dongguazi (Benincasae Semen) Dongkuizi (Malvae Semen) Baiziren (Platycladi Semen) Fuling (Poria) (equal parts).
The above four herbs are ground into powder. Take one fangcunbi (a measure equivalent to about 2-3 grams) after meals, three times a day.
Another formula:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 jin) Mulanpi (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 10 liang) Zhudu (Poris Ventriculus, one piece, cleaned as for food).
The above three herbs are chopped. Place Huanglian and Mulanpi inside the Zhudu. Steam over two dou of rice until cooked. Remove, slice, dry in the sun, and grind into powder. Take one fangcunbi with water before meals, twice a day.
Another formula:
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 3 liang) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang, honey-fried) Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 3 liang, tips and skins removed).
The above three herbs are crushed and sifted. Take one qianbi (a small spoonful measure) with wine, three times a day.
Another formula:
Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 2 liang) Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus, 4 he).
The above two herbs are ground into powder and mixed with Mianzhi (facial fat/ointment base) to apply to the face. Apply twice a day until cured.
Wen Zhong's formula for treating facial melasma.
Hufen (Lead Carbonate) Shuiyin (Mercurius), mixed with lard from the twelfth lunar month, and applied.
Another formula:
Carefully grind Shuiyin (Mercurius), apply at night, and wipe off at dawn. Repeat three or four times until cured.
Another formula:
Crush Tugua Gen (Trichosanthes Radix), mix with Hufen (Lead Carbonate), Shuiyin (Mercurius), and Qingyangzhi (fat from black sheep), and apply to the melasma on the face. It should cure.
From *Beiji Qianjin Yaofang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold for Emergencies): A formula for treating facial melasma.
Apply animal fat to wipe the face, twice a day.
Another formula:
Yingshibai (White part of eagle droppings, 2 fen) Hufen (Lead Carbonate, 1 fen).
Mix the above two herbs with honey and apply to the face until cured.
Another formula mainly for fine spots appearing on the faces of young people.
Shangping (Urticae Herba), crush and apply to the face; drinking a small amount of its juice is also beneficial. (Note: Suspected missing character "water" [shui]).
Another formula:
Soak chicken eggs in aged vinegar (Ku Jiu) for three nights until the shells soften and break. Take the contents and apply to the face until cured.
From *Gujin Luyan*: Yangdan Gao (Sheep Gallbladder Ointment) for treating facial melasma, and dark spots like sparrow eggshells on the faces of postpartum women.
Yangdan (Ovis/Capis Vesica Bilei, one piece) Zhuzhi (Suis Medulla/Cauda Fat, 1 he) Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 1 fen).
Decoct the above three herbs using the Yangdan (bile) until it forms an ointment through three cycles of heating and cooling. Apply at night, wash in the morning. Wash off with Jiangshui (fermented grain water) to verify efficacy.
Another formula: Yuxie Gao (Jade Dust Ointment) for treating facial melasma.
Yuxie (Jade dust) Shanhu (Corallium) Mulanpi (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) (each 3 liang) Xinyi (Magnoliae Flos, hairs removed) Baifuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix) Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (each 2 liang).
Niuzhi (Bovis Medulla/Cauda Fat, 5 liang) Dongguaren (Benincasae Semen) Taoren (Persicae Semen) (1 sheng) Zhuzhi (Suis Medulla/Cauda Fat, 5 he) Baigouzhi (Canis Fat, 2 jin) Shanglu (Phytolaccae Radix) (1 sheng).
Chop the above thirteen herbs and decoct them through three cycles of heating and cooling. When the Baizhi turns yellow, the ointment is ready. Wash the face and apply the ointment; it is highly effective.
Another formula: Bailan Zhi (Isatis Fat) for treating facial melasma resembling soil color.
Bailan (Isradis Radix/Bai Lian, 1 fen) Bai Fan (Alumen, 1 fen, calcined) Shizhi (Kaolin/Halloysite, 1 fen) Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 0.5 fen, tips and skins removed).
Grind and sift the above four herbs, mix with Ji Zi (Chicken Egg white/yolk), apply to the face at night, and wash with Jinghua Shui (well water collected at dawn) the next morning. Note: Bailan refers to Bai Lian (Ampelopsis Radix), which is very effective for both old and young patients.
