The etiology stems from the branch of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian (Hand-Yangming Dachang Jing) entering the teeth. If wind-pathogen invades the head and face, and the Yangming Meridian is deficient, the wind-pathogen will take advantage of this deficiency to flow into the teeth along with the wind, causing slight swelling of the teeth and floating of the tooth roots.
