The formula is named Taiyi Liujin San (Great One Flowing Gold Powder). Realgar (San liang), Orpiment (Liu liang), Alum, Arisaema cum Bile (Yi Jian Yu) (each Yi liang wu qian), and Antelope Horn (Ling Yang Jiao) (Er liang). The above five herbs are ground and sifted. Place one liang of the powder in a triangular crimson sachet, wear it on the chest, and hang it on the door. In years of major epidemics, on the first day of each lunar month, wrap one dao gui amount of the powder in cloth and burn it in the central courtyard. Patients with plague should also use this method for fumigation.
It is also known as Xionghuang San (Realgar Powder). Realgar (Wu liang), Cinnabar (Zhu Sha), Atractylodes Rhizome (Pu - *Note: Context suggests likely Atractylodes or similar aromatic herb, literal translation used*), and White Arisaema (Gui Jiu) (each Er liang). The above four herbs are crushed, ground into fine powder, and applied to the palms of both hands, soles of both feet, forehead, nose, Philtrum (Ren Zhong), and Ear Gate (Er Men).
Another method: Take a piece of horse bone, place it in a small red cloth bag, and carry it on the person. Men wear it on the left side, women on the right.
Another method: Decoct branches of peach trees facing east, bathe twice daily, and naturally avoid infection by the plague.
Another method: Throw a pinch of charcoal secretly into the water vat, avoiding being seen by others.
Another method: Place one Guanzhong (Zhuge) and one piece of Alum into the water vat; this is also effective.
Another method: Fumigate the four corners of the bed closely with moxa cones without letting others know.
Another method: Use Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) as the chief herb (double dose), along with Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome), Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens Root), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizome), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root), Gansong (Nardostachys Root), Shan Nai (Kaempferia Galanga Rhizome), Jian Xiong Huang (Arrow-shaped Realgar) (all in equal parts). Grind into powder, mix with paste to form pills the size of a bullet, coat with Minium (Huang Dan), dry in the sun, and burn.
Another method: Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Xionghuang (Realgar), Renshen (Ginseng Root), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Lilu (Veratrum Nigrum Rhizome), Changpu (Acorus Tatarinowii Rhizome), Feizi (Persimmon Seed) (each San qian). All above ingredients should be raw materials, dried, ground into powder, and burned for fumigation to avoid plague qi.
Another method: Cangzhu (powder) and Xingren (Apricot Seed) (two slices) are burned together to produce smoke for fumigation, which can prevent the transmission of plague qi.
Another method: When seasonal epidemics are contagious, whenever entering a sick person's home, mix Xionghuang (Realgar) and Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) with sesame oil for application or fumigation.
Another method: Drink a cup of Xionghuang wine (Realgar Wine); there will definitely be no transmission.
Another method: Grinding Xionghuang (Realgar) into fine powder is a truly miraculous formula.
Whenever one smells the sweat odor of a patient, which penetrates the nose to the brain and spreads through the meridians, if one initially feels a headache, immediately grind Mustard Seed (Jie Cai Zi) into powder, mix with warm water, and apply to the umbilicus. Place one or two layers of cloth between the skin and the medicine, then heat a pot of hot water and apply it over the cloth to warm the area. Recovery occurs when sweating ensues.
Another method: Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Liangjiang (Galangal Fruit), and Kufan (Calcined Alum) (all in equal parts) are ground into powder. Take one qian of the powder, mix thoroughly with one large scallion white, and apply to the palm. Men apply to the left hand, women to the right hand. Cover the umbilicus, ensuring the hand forms a mound so that the medicine does not directly touch the navel. Then, cover the external kidneys (testicles) for men, or the anterior yin for women, with the other hand. Decoct a bowl of Mung Bean Soup and drink it. Light half a stick of incense; after a while, sweating may occur. If no sweat appears, drink more Mung Bean Soup. Once sweating occurs, recovery follows naturally. (This also treats Da Tou Wen / Great Head Plague)
