Removing necrotic tissue without damaging new granulation tissue is the most gentle and appropriate method. Remove the shells of Crotonis Fructus (Badou, 巴豆), stir-fry until charred on an old tile, grind into fine powder, and set aside. The dosage should be adjusted according to the severity of the ulcer.
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Guiwei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix caudex) (each 2 qian), Xion Zhu Ti (a section of male pig's trotter).
Add five stalks of scallion white with roots intact, decoct in three large bowls of water. Dip a silk cloth in the liquid to wash the affected area, dry it, and then apply the medicine. For deep and curved areas, use a goat-hair brush to wash.
After applying this, necrotic tissue will naturally slough off, and new tissue will naturally grow. This is a miraculous elixir for surgery to restore life and preserve health.
Ruxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha) (equal parts).
Roast these two ingredients on bamboo leaf until dry, grind into extremely fine powder, apply to the affected area, and cover with a plaster. This powder clears toxins to promote healing; if toxins are not fully cleared, it helps draw pus out. Its efficacy is beyond words.
Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Xuexie (Draconis Sanguis), Moyao (Myrrha), Ming Xionghuang (Realgar) (each 3 qian), Shexiang (Moschus) (5 fen).
Grind these five ingredients into fine powder. Take cotton strips about one chi long, wrap three fen of medicine in each strip, soak in genuine sesame oil, ignite, and fumigate from outside to inside around the wound. The toxin dissipates with the medicinal vapor and does not invade the internal organs. Start with three strips, gradually increase to five or seven. As the swelling subsides, gradually reduce the number. After fumigation, immediately apply Wujin Gao (Urgold Ointment) and cover with Wanquan Gao (Perfect Safety Plaster). If the swelling spreads, apply Furong Gao (Hibiscus Plaster) around the periphery. If fumigation is repeated, wash off the previous powder residue. The medicinal oil under the plaster need not be washed off.
Use Xiaochidou (Adzuki Bean), Furong Ye (Hibiscus Leaf), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Juhua Ye (Chrysanthemi Folium), Baiji (Bletillae Rhizoma) (each 4 liang), grind into fine powder.
For every liang of powder, add one fen of Shexiang (Moschus), mix with rice vinegar to apply at the base of the lesion; mixing with egg white is also acceptable.
Treats carbuncles and back sores where necrotic tissue does not slough or fails to suppurate. Also treats malignant ulcers where pus exists internally but the external skin has not ruptured.
Qingfen (Calomelas), Bimaren (Castor Seed) (ground, each 3 qian), Badou (Crotonis Fructus, ground kernel 5 qian), Baijie (2 qian), Zhangnao (Camphora), Luoshi Rou (Margaritiferidae Shell Meat) (each 1 qian), Jinding Pi (Arsenic Trioxide from specific source) (5 fen).
Grind into powder, store in a porcelain jar. When needed, mix with sesame oil and apply to hard, stubborn tissue, covering with Wanquan Gao (Perfect Safety Plaster). For particularly stubborn cases, softening occurs within no more than two applications.
Its potency exceeds that of Wujin San (Urgold Powder).
