For injuries caused by knives or axes, or fractures and crushing injuries from falls and blows, applying this medicine will immediately relieve pain and stop bleeding, and it prevents suppuration (formation of pus), which is far superior to other medicines. The injured area must not be exposed to water. I prepared this medicine to distribute widely; because those living at a distance might find it difficult to obtain in time, I had the prescription printed for broad dissemination. Now that it is also recorded in writing, the circulation of this prescription will be even wider. Wealthy families in each township may compound it to aid in emergencies.
Pig Fat (Male) (1 jin 4 liang) [Lard]
Borneol Resin (Songxiang) (6 liang)
Wheat Flour (4 liang, stir-fried and sifted)
Musk (Shexiang) (6 fen)
Yellow Beeswax (Huangla) (6 liang)
Camphor (Zhangnao) (3 liang, extremely fine powder)
Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) (6 fen)
Dragon's Blood (Xuejie) (1 liang)
Catechu (Ercha) (1 liang)
Frankincense (Ruxiang) (1 liang, roasted on bamboo leaf skin to remove oil)
Myrrh (Moyao) (1 liang, processed similarly)
Grind all the above herbs into an extremely fine powder. First, melt the pig fat, Borneol Resin, and Yellow Beeswax together, then filter out the dregs. Wait until the mixture cools slightly, then add the herbal powder and stir evenly. Store in porcelain containers with a tight seal to prevent air leakage.
(Ru Yan: Breast Tumor/Carcinoma)
Ru Yong (Acute Mastitis) presents with breast pain and suppuration; healing occurs when the pus is exhausted. In the early stage, it is advisable to take Gualou San (Trichosanthes Powder) and apply Xiangfu Bing (Cyperi Catillus Compress) externally, which can lead to immediate resolution. If suppuration has already formed, apply Taiyi Gao (Taiyi Plaster). If ulcerated, sprinkle Haifu San (Haifou Powder) externally and cover with a plaster; healing occurs once the pus is fully absorbed. Ru Yan (Breast Carcinoma) initially presents as a small internal nodule the size of a chess piece, which gradually enlarges over time and eventually breaks down, resembling a rock, hence the name. It is suitable to administer Xiaoyao San (Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) and Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction); although a cure may not be achieved, life can be prolonged. Blindly employing aggressive attacking methods accelerates danger.
Trichosanthes Fruit (Gualou) (1 fruit)
Light Frankincense (Ming Ruxiang) (2 qian)
Decoct in wine and take orally.
Apply externally to treat Ru Yan for immediate resolution. Applicable to all types of carbuncles and swellings.
Cyperi Rhizome (Xiangfu) (Fine powder, 1 liang)
Musk (Shexexiang) (2 fen)
Grind these two ingredients evenly. Decoct 2 liang of Dandelion (Yingongying) in wine, strain the dregs, and use the wine to mix the powder. Apply as a hot compress to the affected area.
To treat all types of carbuncles, ulcers, and toxic swellings, using this to promote pus discharge is extremely effective.
Cinnamon Twig (Rougui) (1.5 qian)
Angelica Dahurica (Baizhi)
Angelica Sinensis (Danggui)
Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen)
Red Peony Root (Chishao)
Rehmannia Root (Shengdi)
Rhubarb (Dahuang)
Elsholtzia Seed (Tumuie) (Each 5 qian)
Frankincense Powder (Ruxiang Mo) (2 qian)
Myrrh Powder (Moyao Mo) (2 qian)
Asafoetida (awei) (1 qian)
Calomel (Qingfen) (1.5 qian)
Human Hair (Xueyu) (One clump)
Lead Tetroxide (Huandan) (6.5 liang)
Soak all the above herbs in 1 jin of pure Sesame Oil (Zhima You). Soaking duration: Spring 5 days, Summer 3 days, Autumn 7 days, Winter 10 days. Pour into a pot and simmer using alternating mild and strong heat until the herbs are charred and float to the surface. Let stand off the heat for a moment, then filter the dregs cleanly through a cloth bag. Clean the pot thoroughly, return the oil, add Human Hair, and continue simmering. Test with a willow twig. When the hair is charred and floats, the oil is considered sufficiently cooked. For every 1 jin of refined oil, slowly add 6.5 liang of stir-fried Lead Tetroxide while stirring continuously. Wait for green smoke to appear first, followed by layers of white smoke rising; the plaster is now formed. Drop the plaster into water to test for appropriate consistency. Remove from heat, then add Asafoetida, sprinkling it on the surface of the plaster and waiting for it to dissolve completely. Next, add Frankincense, Myrrh, and Calomel, stir evenly, pour into water, and knead into a single mass using a willow wood stick.
