Whenever treating sores and swellings, during the first one or two days of onset, it is appropriate to use decocted herbal medicine for bathing and fumigation. This is merely intended to open the couli (skin pores and interstices), harmonize the blood vessels, and prevent stagnation. It avoids suffering and also serves to disinfect. If washing after ulceration, the purpose is to cleanse the sore and remove pus, alleviating pain from surrounding indurations. The same applies to杖疮 (punishment wounds). Recently, 杨梅疮 (chancre/venereal sore) occurring in the anal region, which persists despite long-term treatment, can be cured by fumigating and then washing with a decoction of five roots poured into a chamber pot. After only a few treatments, it heals. This method is even more effective for other sores, not just venereal sores.
The method of "Sai Huozhen" (Fire Needle Replacement) was established by me. Recently, people have been reluctant to use fire needles due to fear, often because of their indulgent lifestyles, which unfortunately endangers life. How can they endure suffering while toxins remain unexcreted? Although I am not particularly gifted, I established this method, saving many lives. It was rarely used in ancient times but is now found to be quite remarkable. I dare not keep it secret; users should reflect on my intent. Place the herbal powder on top of the sore, considering its size and depth to determine the amount of medicine. Ignite it with incense. The medicine penetrates instantly, causing large amounts of pus to drain out. Pain ceases immediately, sparing the patient further suffering. This knowledge should be kept somewhat confidential. The formulas are recorded below.
"Dai Zhen" (Needle Substitution) refers to using medicine instead of needles. Even if the pus is ripe, for women, young children, or those who are willful or afraid of needles, this medicine should be taken orally. Within a short time, a head will appear, rupturing to release pus and avoid pain. This reflects benevolence. The formula is seen later.
"Fufei" (Application/Poultice) means transformation and dispersion, i.e., transforming and dispersing toxicity to prevent obstruction. Depending on the urgency of the sore and the nature of the toxin, medicines vary in cold or cool properties. The key lies in suitability. For severe redness and swelling, apply Hongbao Gao (a cold-natured ointment). For swelling that is deep and dark without color change, apply Yulong Gao (a warm-natured ointment). For cases that are neither hot nor cold, apply Chonghe Gao or Wulong Gao. This facilitates pus maturation and prevents toxin spread, aiding resolution.
Why do stubborn boils, sores, and tumors fail to heal for half a year or a year? This is often due to improper sexual conduct in men and women. Children may also suffer from similar issues related to nursing desires. Additionally, trauma such as falls or collisions before the pus has fully drained can cause recurrence and chronicity. For such untreatable conditions, heat silver coins or silver spoons until red-hot and cauterize the boil. Healing occurs within a few days. Inform the patient beforehand. This is truly an excellent method. If silver is unavailable, copper coins can substitute. For hemangiomas the size of an eggplant attached to the body and hindering movement, cut off the base with a sharp blade and immediately cauterize with a red-hot silver spoon. This stops bleeding and prevents recurrence, leading to healing in a few days.
