Ma Dao Chu (Scrofula-like Ulcer)
This condition occurs in the Hand-Shaoyang and Foot-Shaoyang meridians. Both meridians are characterized by abundant Qi and scarce Blood. Initially, the swelling is hard as stone, located either below the shoulder or at the Quepen (ST 12) acupoint; when unruptured, it feels rootless upon manipulation. It may also occur on both hypochondriac regions. If pus and fluid have already drained, or if it occurs on the posterior lower body extending up to the shoulder, it should be treated with Jiuku Huajian Decoction (Rescue from Suffering and Harden-Resolving Decoction). If not treated early, prolonged delay will lead to the decline of Qi and Blood, which could certainly endanger life.
Zhang Chu (Whip Mark Ulcer)
Injuries caused by corporal punishment are not due to Qi deficiency or the failure of Ying (Nutritive) Qi to flow smoothly, but result directly from penal infliction. Loud cries injure Qi, while enduring pain injures Blood. There are even cases of death due to blood rushing to the Heart. These outcomes depend on the individual's physical strength and the severity of the punishment. The appropriate treatment is to invigorate blood and regulate the middle jiao, with great tonification being ideal. Some injuries from beating result from blood stasis.
Tu Chu (Baldness-inducing Ulcer)
This arises from Damp-Heat affecting the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian and the Du Mai (Governing Vessel), causing parasitic itching, manifested as high-piled crusts. Exposure to wind causes white scales; heat leads to hair loss. Over time, the follicles are damaged, preventing hair regrowth. Treatment should focus on dispelling wind and eliminating dampness, killing parasites and relieving itching, combined with internal administration of blood-nourishing herbs. Externally, applying Bear Oil Ointment is highly effective.
Yu Qi Chu (Fish-Navel Ulcer)
When occurring in the cubital fossa, this involves the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian, which is rich in Qi and poor in Blood, specifically around the Shaohai (HT 3) and Lingdao (HT 4) acupoints. When occurring in the calf, this involves the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, which is rich in Blood and poor in Qi, specifically around the Chengshan (BL 57) and Feiyang (BL 58) acupoints. Also known as Yu Qi Ding (Fish-Navel Carbuncle), it is extremely painful. It is suitable to use methods that support the exterior and guide the pathogen out, incorporating meridian-guiding herbs. Moxibustion applied beforehand is also excellent.
Yin Bao Du (Yin Swelling Toxin)
This is caused by Wind-Heat toxin in the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian, which is rich in Blood and poor in Qi, resulting in severe pain. Internal administration of Neituo Huangqi Chaihu Tang (Internal-Supporting Astragalus and Bupleurum Decoction) is indicated. This formula is also miraculous for treating sores such as carbuncles, ulcers, and furuncles near the inner thigh. It resolves lesions before they ulcerate and heals them after they ulcerate. External application of poultices yields even better results.
