Tanbao (Sublingual Gland Cyst) usually develops under the tongue, presenting as a swollen nodule that is soft and cotton-like in texture, resembling a calabash. The patient experiences pain and distension under the tongue, interfering with eating and speaking; this condition is formed by the accumulation and flow of phlegm and saliva due to the scorching action of Fire pathogenic factors.
[Note] This syndrome manifests under the tongue as a swelling resembling a calabash, smooth and soft like cotton, obstructing the sublingual space and hindering diet and speech. It appears yellowish with a numb sensation, caused by the flow and accumulation of phlegm-saliva scorched by Fire. It is appropriate to puncture the cyst directly with scissors, allowing the discharge of viscous fluid resembling egg white. After wiping clean, apply Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder), and internally administer Jiawei Erchen Tang (Modified Two-Aged Phlegm Decoction). Avoid fried foods and strong alcohol.
Jiawei Erchen Tang (Modified Two-Aged Phlegm Decoction)
Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel) Banxia (Prepared Pinellia Rhizome) Baifuling (Poria with Hostwood) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) (each 8 fen) Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) Bohe (Mint) Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) (each 5 fen)
Add two cups of water and three slices of fresh ginger, decoct until reduced to eight-tenths of the volume, and take before meals.
[Fangge] Jiawei Erchen treats Tanbao, nodules under the tongue shaped like a calabash; adding Scutellaria, Coptis, and Mint to the Two-Aged Phlegm formula, decocted with ginger for natural resolution.
Bingpeng San (See Mouth Section: Thrush)
She nü (Lingual Hemorrhage) often results from Heart Fire blazing in the Blood level. Holes appear on the tongue, small ones resembling iron needle tips, larger ones like chopstick heads. The color may be purple; in severe cases, it turns black with rotting tissue, and blood gushes out like a spring.
[Note] This syndrome involves sudden holes appearing on the tongue, ranging from needle-tip size to chopstick-head size. Purple color indicates extreme heat; black color indicates rotting. Blood gushing like a spring is caused by Heart Fire flaming upward, leading to reckless bleeding due to Heat in the Blood. It is appropriate to consume Shengma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction) and externally apply Bisheng San (Invincible Victory Powder) for significant effect.
Shengma Tang (Cimicifuga Decoction)
Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome) Xiaoji Gen (Small Thistle Root) Qian Gen (Rubia Root) (each 1.5 qian) Aiye (Mugwort Leaf) (0.75 qian) Hanshuishi (Calcitum) (3 liang)
Grind together. Take 3 qian per dose, add one cup of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, clarify and remove dregs. Add one spoonful of fresh Shengdihuang juice (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata Juice), boil twice more, and take warm. Alternatively, add 5 qian of Chao Ce Baiye (Stir-fried Biota Tops).
[Fangge] Shengma treats She nü from Heart Fire blazing; Small Thistle and Rubia each 1.5 liang, add Mugwort 0.75 liang, grind together with 3 liang Calcitum.
Bisheng San (Invincible Victory Powder)
Luqing (Calamine) (separately ground) Puhuang (Pollen Typhae) (stir-fried, each 1 qian)
Mix and grind into fine powder, apply to the affected area, then rinse mouth with warm salt water.
[Fangge] Bisheng San treats reckless bleeding from Heart Heat and Blood; when small holes on the tongue gush red blood, Calamine powder mixed with stir-fried Pollen Typhae applied evenly restores blood to its vessels.
