Quan Yang (Cheek Ulcer) and Quan Ju (Cheek Abscess) gradually take on a shape resembling a pomegranate. The pathogenesis involves Wind-Heat or accumulated Heat accumulating in the Small Intestine Meridian. Quan Yang initially presents with redness, swelling, edema, and pain; whereas Quan Ju manifests as purple discoloration, diffuse swelling, hardness, numbness, and pain.
[Note] These two conditions occur at the tip of the zygomatic bone, belonging to the Small Intestine Meridian, regardless of whether on the left or right side. Initially small, they gradually enlarge like a pomegranate. Those arising in the Yang aspect are caused by Wind-Heat; initially presenting with redness, swelling, edema, and pain, they suppurate within seven days. This is named Quan Yang, characterized by mild toxicity and shallow roots, making it easy to heal. Those arising in the Yin aspect are caused by accumulated Heat; presenting with purple color, diffuse swelling, hardness, numbness, and pain, they suppurate after twenty-one days (three sevens). This is named Quan Ju, characterized by severe toxicity and deep roots, making it difficult to heal. For early-stage Yang conditions, Xian Fang Huo Ming Yin (Immortal Life Elixir Powder) is suitable; for early-stage Ju conditions, Nei Shu Huang Lian Tang (Internal Draining Coptis Decoction) or Mai Ling Dan (Mai Ling Pill) are suitable. All other internal and external treatment methods should follow the sections on Gong (Carbuncle), Ju (Abscess), Zhong Yang (Swelling Ulcer), and Kui Yang (Ulcerated Wound).
Xian Fang Huo Ming Yin, Nei Shu Huang Lian Tang, Mai Ling Dan (all see Section on Zhong Yang)
Quan Ding (Cheek Ding) initially appears in the shape of millet grains. The condition arises from Fire-Toxin in the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming. The lesion is hard, with a depressed apex and firm root, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, numbness, itching, and pain.
[Note] This condition occurs between the zygomatic bones, belonging to the Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming, regardless of left or right. Initially appearing as a small yellow spot like a millet grain, it subsequently becomes the size of a red bean. The apex is depressed and hard, feeling like a Ding head upon pressure, with numbness, itching, and pain. It is often caused by excessive consumption of fried, roasted foods, and medicinal wine, leading to accumulated fire in the Stomach Meridian transforming into toxin. Early stage treatment is suitable with Chan Su Wan (Toad Venom Pill), or using Mai Ling Dan to induce sweating, followed by Huang Lian Xiao Du Yin (Coptis Detoxification Decoction) to clear heat. External treatments are the same as those in the Ding section. All Ding conditions are rapid-progressing diseases; immediate treatment is required upon initial sensation. Delay allows Fire-Toxin to attack the Heart, causing confusion and delirium, adding all malignant symptoms, often resulting in untreatable outcomes.

Mian Fa Du (Facial Spreading Toxin) arises at the Jiache acupoint. Initially few in number, they gradually increase in number, taking the shape of red beans. They present with swelling, hardness, pain, oozing serum, and yellow fluid. The condition belongs to Wind-Heat lodging in the Yangming Meridian.
[Note] This condition occurs in the space of the zygomatic bone at the face's Jiache area. Initially one lesion appears, gradually developing into several, shaped like red beans, red in color, painful, hard like a Ding, and frequently oozing yellow fluid. It is caused by Wind-Heat lodging in the Yangming Meridian and attacking upward. Early stage treatment is suitable with Jing Fang Bai Du San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Decoction to Overcome Toxicity) to induce sweating. If Stomach Fire is abundant, manifesting as dry lips, thirst, and dry stool, Liang Ge San (Cooling the Diaphragm Powder) should be administered immediately to purge, and applied externally with Qing Liang Xiao Du San (Cooling and Clearing Detoxification Powder) for recovery.
