Huma Lafan Wan (Membrane-Protecting Wax and Alum Pill): Bai Mingfan (Alum, 4 liang, ground into fine powder), Huangla (Yellow Beeswax, 2 liang), Chensha (Cinnabar, 6 qian, processed by water flotation). Alternatively, add 4 liang of scallion flowers and stir-fry together. First, melt the yellow beeswax. When it cools slightly, add the alum powder and cinnabar, stirring continuously until evenly mixed. Add 7–8 qian of refined white honey and blend uniformly. Roll into pills the size of a Chinese quince seed (Wuzi). If the wax solidifies and prevents rolling, warm in boiling water before shaping. This formula is used to protect mucous membranes and prevent pathogenic toxins from invading internally. For sores not yet ulcerated, it promotes resolution; for those already ulcerated, it promotes healing. Take 30–40 pills per dose, swallowed with plain water or wine. To be effective, consume 100 pills daily, maintaining consistency throughout the course. A cumulative intake of over half a jin (approx. 500g) ensures complete recovery. Even after cure, continued administration is beneficial.
Hupo Lafan Wan (Amber Wax and Alum Pill): Huangla (Yellow Beeswax, 1 liang), Mingfan (Alum, 1 liang 2 qian), Xionghuang (Realgar, 2 qian 2 fen), Hupo (Amber, 1 qian), Chensha (Cinnabar, 1 qian). Another variant adds white honey. First, mash ten grape meats with the beeswax into a paste. Mix in the powdered herbs and form pills. Coat the pills with powder of Amber and Cinnabar. Indicated for protecting membranes and resolving toxins. Take 1 qian per dose, administered after meals with plain water.
Huxin San (Heart-Protecting Powder): Sheng Lvdouyi (Raw Mung Bean Seed Coats, 1 liang 5 qian), Gancao Jie (Licorice Root Nodes, 1 liang), Hupo (Amber) ground together with Dengxincao (Juncus Effusus Stem), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Chensha (Cinnabar), Xionghuang (Realgar) (each 1 qian). Grind all into fine powder. Used prophylactically to prevent toxic vapors from sinking inward. Take 1 qian per dose, administered on an empty stomach with wine.
Wudi Dan (Invincible Pill): Sangcha Hui Zhi (Ash Juice from Mulberry Wood Charcoal), Qiagao Hui Zhi (Ash Juice from Eggplant Stalks), Kuanghui Zhi (Mineral Ash Juice) (each 1 dou). Boil and mix these three juices to create Sanxian Gao (Three Immortals Paste). This paste can also be applied to mild cases of carbuncles and sores. Further process 1 liang of this paste with alkali water solution, then add the following powdered herbs to complete the formula: Chan Su (Toad Venom, 3 qian 5 fen, dissolved in wine), Mingfan (Alum, 3 qian), Huoxiao (Saltpeter/Niter, 3 qian), Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, 1 qian), Shexiang (Moschus/Musk, 1 qian), Bingpian (Borneol, 1 qian), Zhenzhu (Pearl, 1 qian), Pengsha (Borax, 1 qian), Xionghuang (Realgar, 1 qian), Qingfen (Calomel, 1 qian), Ruxiang (Frankincense, 1 qian), Tonglv soaked in human milk (1 qian 5 fen), Zhusha (Cinnabar, 1 qian 5 fen). Grind all ingredients to an extremely fine powder and mix thoroughly, milling thousands of times. Incorporate the prepared paste, stirring until perfectly homogeneous. Store in a small-mouthed porcelain jar, sealed with Wujin paper and yellow beeswax to ensure absolute airtightness. For toxic sores, apply a small amount to the apex of the lesion. If the medication dries, moisten with a mixture of rice vinegar and honey. Black blood or toxic fluid will emerge, providing immediate relief. Do not apply to healthy skin. Can also be mixed with buckwheat flour. For Ding Chuang (Carbuncle/Furuncle), add 1 fen of iron rust, ground to dust-like fineness, and apply heavily to the center. After one night, the root will necrose and detach. Internally administer Zijin Ding (Purple Gold锭). For Yong Ju (Abscess/Carbuncle), additionally take Huma Lafan Wan and formulas that support the interior and resolve toxicity. This formula possesses life-saving efficacy for Yong Ju Dui Kou (Opposing Carbuncles at the Neck), Ding Chuang Fa Bei (Back Carbuncles), and all unnamed swellings and toxins. Its effects are too numerous to describe fully.
Echuang Dingzi (Malignant Sore锭): Baiti (White Arsenic, 1 qian), Shexiang (Moschus/Musk, 5 fen), Guiwei (Angelica Sinensis Tail, 5 fen), Wuwei (Schisandra Chinensis Fruit, 5 fen), Chan Su (Toad Venom, 1 qian), Caowu (Aconitum Kusnezoffii Root, 1 qian), Qingfen (Calomel, 2 qian), Chuanwu (Aconitum Carmichaelii Root, 1 qian), Yueshi (Mirabilite, 5 fen), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood, 1 qian), Quanxie (Scorpion, 2 pieces), Pengsha (Borax, 1 qian), Tonglv (Verdigris, 5 fen), Yinzhu (Vermilion/Cinnabar substitute, 5 fen), Xionghuang (Realgar, 5 fen). Grind all to an extremely fine powder. Mix Chan Su with human milk to form锭 (pills/cakes) the size of large Ophiopogon tuber. One锭 is divided into two portions for two patients. Puncture the sore with a needle until bleeding occurs, insert the medicated piece, and cover with paper. Remove the medicine once pus forms, and clean the area thoroughly.
Wanying Zhentou Wan (Universal Needle-Head Pill): Shexiang (Moschus/Musk, 2 qian), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood, 3 qian), Qingfen (Calomel, 3 qian), Chan Su (Toad Venom, 3 qian), Pengsha (Borax, 3 qian), Dameipian (Borneol, 1 qian), Jintou Chizu Wugong (Centipede with golden head and red legs, 1 piece). Grind into powder and form pills with refined honey. Indicated for all Yong Ju (abscesses/carbuncles) occurring on the chest or back where toxicity is severe and life-threatening. Puncture the head of the sore with a needle to drain blood. Place a pill-sized grain (size of a millet seed) into the wound. Moisten surrounding tissue with saliva-wetted paper flower and secure with a dressing. Healing occurs almost instantly.
Huafu Zixia Gao (Rotting-Tissue Purple Cloud Ointment): Qingfen (Calomel, 3 qian), Bamaren (Castor Bean Seed, 3 qian, crushed), Xuexie (Dragon's Blood, 2 qian), Badoushuang (Croton Seed Frost/Paste, 5 qian), Jindingpi (Golden-Topped Arsenic, 5 qian), Luosirou Shui (Water from Snail Meat, 2 qian), Chaonao (Camphor, 1 qian). Grind uniformly and store in a jar. Indicated for established Fabei (Back Carbuncle) with non-necrotic stagnant flesh or failure to suppurate, and for other sores containing internal pus but lacking external rupture. It induces necrosis in non-necrotic tissue and rupture in unruptured lesions. Its efficacy surpasses that of Wujin Gao and Bixia Dingzi. Apply externally using sesame oil on hard, stubborn flesh, covering with cotton paper or a plaster.
Yuanzhu Gao (Pearl Pearl Ointment): Benbiezi Rou (Meat of Trionyx Sinensis Egg, 14 pieces), Banmao (Mylabris Beetle, 80 pieces), Liuzhi (Willow Twig, 49 cun), Lvtijia Pian (Donkey Hoof Plate, 3 qian), Caowu (Aconitum Kusnezoffii Root, 1 qian), Mayou (Sesame Oil, 2 liang). Soak the above herbs in oil for seven days. Fry gently over low heat until browned, remove residues, add three Croton seeds, and boil until black. Pour into a mortar and grind into a paste. Add 1 fen of Shexiang (Moschus/Musk), mix well, and store in a jar. Applied when a swelling is about to suppurate; it draws pus out through the pores. For incised wounds, guide the ointment into the cavity with a finger to rapidly dissolve necrotic pus.
Gepi Qunong Fa (Method of Extracting Pus Through Intact Skin): Lvtpi (Donkey Hoof Skin, 1 liang), stir-fried and powdered; Shaqiao Qiaomai Mian (Sand-roasted Buckwheat Flour, 1 liang); Caowu (Aconitum Kusnezoffii Root, 4 qian, peeled and powdered); Yan Shi (Salt, 5 qian). Grind finely, bind with water paste to form thin cake pills. Roast until lightly yellow, grind again. Spread with vinegar on white paper and apply to the affected area. Pus drains through the pores. Cover with coarse paper and replace when wet. Once drainage ceases and the paper dries, swelling subsides. This method is ideal for deep-seated infections where direct surgical incision is difficult or the patient fears surgery, provided the pus is mature. If pus does not exit via pores, the application site will naturally form a fistula for drainage.
