六味地黄丸(药见肺痈门肾气丸)
Pulmonary Wind, Acne (Comedo), and Rhinophyma (Alcoholic Nose) are three different names for the same condition. Acne is associated with the Lung, while Rhinophyma is associated with the Spleen; fundamentally, both result from blood heat stagnation that fails to dissipate. As the TCM principle states, "internal pathology manifests externally," treatment should involve applying Zhenjun Miaotie San (Miraculous Paste of the True Lord) mixed with Baifuzi (Aconitum carmichaelii radix preparata) topically, and taking Pipaye Wan (Loquat Leaf Pill) or Huangqin Qingfei Yin (Scutellaria Decoction to Clear the Lungs) internally.
[Pipaye Wan]
Pipaye Wan consists of Huafen (Trichosanthes root), Gancao (Licorice root), and Huangqin (Scutellaria root), processed into pills using wine.
This formula treats Pulmonary Wind, Acne, and Rhinophyma; ingestion leads to recovery in all three conditions.
Indications: Pulmonary Wind, Acne, and Rhinophyma. Initially presenting as redness, progressing to swelling and thickening of the flesh over time.
Ingredients: Pipaye (Loquat leaf, de-hairied, 8 liang), Huangqin (Scutellaria root, wine-fried, 4 liang), Gancao (Licorice root, 1 liang), Huafen (Trichosanthes root, 4 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Use wine from Xin'an County to process the powder into pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 1.5 qian per dose. Administer after meals and before sleep, with plain boiled water or tea. Avoid spicy, heating foods, fried items, and strong liquor.
[Huangqin Qingfei Yin]
Huangqin Qingfei Yin consists of Chuanxiong (Szechwan lovage rhizome), Danggui (Angelica sinensis), Chishao (Red peony root), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia root), Shengdi (Rehmannia root), Lianqiao (Forsythia fruit), Gange (Kudzu root), Huafen (Trichosanthes root), Bohe (Mint), and Honghua (Safflower).
Indications are the same as above.
Ingredients: Chuanxiong, Danggui, Chishao, Fangfeng, Shengdi, Gange, Huafen, Lianqiao, Honghua (each 1 qian); Huangqin (2 qian); Bohe (0.5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Add two zhong of water, decoct until one-eighth remains. Take after meals, followed by a cup of wine to facilitate the circulation of medicinal properties.
[Zhenjun Miaotie San] (See chapter on Ulcerated Sores)
Indications: Redness, purple discoloration, and swelling caused by Pulmonary Wind, Acne, and Rhinophyma. Apply topically morning and evening, mixed with cool water.
Freckles occur due to Kidney Water failing to nourish the upper body, causing Fire stagnation to form spots. Treatment requires internal administration of Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) to nourish the source of transformation, and external application of Yurong Wan (Jade Face Pill) morning and night for gradual improvement.
[Yurong Wan]
Yurong Wan consists of Zhizi (Gardenia fruit), Qianghuo (Notopterygium rhizome), Duhuo (Angelica pubescens root), Songxiang (Pine resin), Jingjie (Schizonepeta spike), Fan (Alum), Xixin (Asarum root), Shan Nai (Galangal), Baizhi (Angelica dahurica root), Ji Lian (Polygonum multiflorum vine? *Note: Text says 'Ma Feng' then 'Ji Lian', likely distinct herbs*), Chuanjiao (Sichuan pepper), Tanxiang (Sandalwood), Can (Silkworm), Gaoben (Ligusticum root), Tuoseng (Calomel/Mercury compound?), Hongzao (Jujube), and Juhua (Chrysanthemum flower).
Indications: Freckles and acne in men and women, and rough skin texture on the body. Wash with this preparation.
Ingredients: Gangsong (Sweet flag rhizome), Shan Nai (Galangal), Xixin (Asarum), Baizhi (Angelica dahurica), Baidi (Cynanchum atratum root), Baiji (Bletilla rhizome), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia root), Jingjie (Schizonepeta spike), Jiangcan (Stiff silkworm), Zhizi (Gardenia), Gaoben (Ligusticum), Tianma (Gastrodia tuber), Qianghuo (Notopterygium), Duhuo (Angelica pubescens), Tuoseng (Mercurial compound), Fan (Alum), Tanxiang (Sandalwood), Chuanjiao (Sichuan pepper), Juhua (Chrysanthemum) (each 1 qian); Hongzaorou (Jujube pulp, 7 pieces).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Combine with 1 jin of soap free of membranes and pound into pills. In autumn/winter, add 5 qian of raw honey; if skin is particularly rough and dry, add 3 qian of ox marrow. Wash face and hands morning and evening; the skin will naturally become smooth, clean, and jade-like, warm and delicate.
[Yuji San]
Yuji San uses Sheng Lv Dou (Raw Mung Bean), Huashi (Talcum), and Baizhi (Angelica dahurica), ground together, plus Baifuzi (Prepared Aconite).
Indications: Effective for wind-dampness, freckles, acne, and white dandruff-related skin itching.
Ingredients: Sheng Lv Dou (Raw Mung Bean, half sheng); Huashi (Talcum), Baizhi (Angelica dahurica), Baifuzi (Prepared Aconite) (each 2 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Use three spoons each time. Mix with hot water when washing the face morning and evening to cleanse affected areas.
