[Chong She (Double Tongue)]
Chong She (double tongue) in adults and children is caused by the reckless movement of Heart Fire. The affected area should be pricked with a thread needle to release foul blood. Internally, Jiedu Xiexin Tang (Detoxifying Decoction for Purging Heart Fire) should be taken, and externally, Bingpeng San (Borneol and Borax Powder) should be applied.
Zi She (purple tongue) and Mu She (wooden tongue) are also caused by Heart Fire. Fei Yan (calcined salt) and a small amount of Bingpian (Borneol) should be frequently applied to induce the discharge of saliva, which will lead to self-healing. If phlegm-qi stagnates on the tongue, forming a hard, painful nodule, it should be broken open with a thread needle to release blood, followed by the application of Bingpeng San and the administration of the subsequent herbal formula.
Huanglian Xiexin Tang (Coptis Decoction for Purging the Heart):
Verse: Huanglian Xiexin Tang contains Huangqin and Huanglian; Jingjie, Shanzhi, and Niuzi gather together; Bohe, Gancao, and Lianqiao are equal parts; adding Mutong makes the effect swift as if plucked.
Indications: This formula is suitable for adults and children whose reckless Heart Fire condenses into Chong She, Mu She, or Zi She, resulting in swelling, hardness, and difficulty in speech.
Composition: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Niuzi (Arctii Fructus) (each 1 qian); Gancao (Licorice Root) (0.5 qian).
Administration: Decoct 2 zhong of water with 20 roots of Dengxin (Junci Medullia) until reduced to 0.8 zhong; take after meals.
Acupuncture Method: Used for treating Chong She, Mu She, and Zi She, characterized by swelling, pain, stiffness, and inability to speak; additionally, when there is swelling at the base of the tongue and the junction where the two teeth meet, with瘀肉 (fleshy growths) blocking the mouth, causing trismus (lockjaw) and difficulty opening the mouth, this method should be used. Tie a coarse thread diagonally around the head of a chopstick, prick the affected area to release blood. Red-purple blood indicates mild toxicity; purple-black blood indicates severe toxicity. In severe cases, dozens of pricks may be necessary. After bleeding stops, rinse the mouth with warm water. For severe cases, apply Jin Suo Chi (Golden Lock Key); for mild cases, apply Bingpeng San to discharge hot saliva. Internally, Liangge San (Cooling the Diaphragm Powder) or Qingliang Yin (Clearing and Cooling Drink) can be selected.
Note: Jin Suo Chi, Bingpeng San, Liangge San, and Sishun Qingliang Yin (all see the Throat Section).
[Tai Liu (Fetal Tumor)]
Tai Liu refers to swellings appearing on the head, chest, or between the breasts of newborn infants. They range from large like steamed buns to small like plums or apricots. These are all formed by the stagnation of fetal blood stasis. One must wait until the infant is over one month old before using acupuncture to puncture them. If the discharge resembles red bean juice, the condition is stable; internally, Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Detoxifying Pill) should be administered.
Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Detoxifying Pill):
Verse: Wufu Huadu Dan contains Lian and Jie; Qingdai, Renshen, and Chi Fuling; Xuanshen, Danshen, Yaxiaopian; Gancao, Zhusha, and Jinbo present.
Indications: Effective for infants with accumulated fetal toxins, various sores, urticaria, wind-heat macular eruptions, mouth and tongue ulcers, excessive phlegm-saliva, delirious speech, irritability, and restless sleep at night.
Composition: Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chi Fu (Red Poria) (each 2 liang); Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (3 qian); Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Yaxiao (Natrii Sulfas) (each 1 liang); Gancao (Licorice Root) (5 qian); Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) (0.5 fen); Zhusha (Cinnabaris) (3 qian); Jinbo (Gold Leaf) (20 sheets, used as coating).
Administration: Grind the above ingredients into powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like Euryale Seed (Qianshi). Take one pill per dose, dissolved in Bohe Dengxin Tang (Mint and Juncus Decoction). Additionally, it treats residual toxins attacking upward after sores and rashes, causing foul-smelling bloody saliva in the mouth and teeth. Dissolve with Sheng Dihuang Zhi (Fresh Rehmannia Juice); if Fresh Rehmannia is unavailable, Zhuye Dengxin Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Juncus Decoction) may also be used.
